Why RyCOM’s Brand Color Is Maroon ( #800000)
..and no, it’s not because red makes people “buy stuff.”
You ever read those branding guides that say things like, “Blue builds trust, red creates urgency, and yellow makes people feel happy”? Yeah… cool story. You know what actually matters? Picking a color that works.
When I started RyCOM, I already knew the brand was going to reflect me. And since I’ve been a lifelong Superman fan, the shortlist was simple: red, blue, or yellow. It had to vibe with the cape. 🦸
But here’s what the self proclaimed color theory gurus don’t tell you:
Yellow is gorgeous, until you realize it disappears on white backgrounds unless you pair it with pure black or neon purple.
Blue looks slick, until you try to print it and spend a fortune making sure it doesn’t look like five different blues on five different materials.
Bright red? It’s powerful, sure. But good luck finding a consistent hex code or matching it to apparel, signage, and packaging without losing your mind.
Then I found it. #800000. Maroon.
Not trendy. Not pretentious. Just… solid.
It has contrast. It's an easy to remember and install HEX code. It plays nice in print. It holds its ground on digital. And you can slap it on a hat, a hoodie, a vinyl decal, or a billboard, and it’ll still feel like RyCOM.
So no, we didn’t choose maroon because some brand psychology chart told us it “boosts conversions by 17%.”
We chose it because it works. Because it lasts. Because it reflects a brand built on doing things that actually matter.
And, let’s be honest, Superman 100% rocked it for over 15 years.
