Then I had a college history teacher who changed everything.

She finally made the whole point of going to school make sense.
That mindset, that everything is a traceable result of a predecessor, is the single most important framework for problem-solving in IT consulting.
When a server crashes, or a security breach occurs, the client often sees it as a sudden, random catastrophe. We don't. We know it's a clear line of cause and effect. It wasn't random; it was the result of a missed patch, an outdated firewall rule, or a process failure three months ago. You just have to follow the chain back.
This ability to trace an outcome back to its original cause allows us to be ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ, ๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ. We don't just put out the current fire; we identify the conditions that allowed the fire to start.
