Please be very careful as to what you upload to any cloud space and what you put online. Once it's there, it is there forever.

And do not ever pay for cloud space. Because what you're doing is you're paying for someone else to store your data on their hard drive. This is including OneDrive, Google images and all of those free cloud spaces you get.

I have all of my pictures on my computer and saved onto a digital external hard drive. And I periodically delete all of my cloud files that I forget to take off automatic back up.

🔒 AUGUST WINDOWS SECURITY CHECK 🔒

When was the last time your computer was completely updated—and successfully restarted afterward?

A computer may appear to be working normally while still missing important security updates, running an outdated version of Windows, or relying on a backup that hasn’t worked in months.

My August Windows Security Check includes:

✅ Installing available Windows updates
✅ Confirming which Windows version you’re running
✅ Making sure updates finish and the computer restarts properly
✅ Updating Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other browsers
✅ Checking that your important files are actually backed up

Don’t wait until a failed update, virus, or hard-drive problem puts your files at risk.

Message JD’s Computers to schedule your August Security Check. Serving Downriver and the surrounding Wayne and Washtenaw County areas. 💻

🎒 DOWNRIVER PARENTS—IS THE COMPUTER READY FOR SCHOOL?

Romulus and Huron schools both begin September 8. We still have a little time to make sure the technology your student depends on is ready too!

Before the first homework assignment turns into a computer emergency, I can help with:

💻 Slow or freezing laptops
🔄 Windows updates and computer tune-ups
🛡️ Malware and security checks
💾 Backing up important school files
🖨️ Printer and scanner setup
🎥 We**am and microphone testing
📶 Weak Wi-Fi in the homework area
🗂️ Cleaning up storage space
🔁 Moving files to another computer

Already have a computer but aren’t sure whether it’s ready? I’ll help you determine whether it needs a tune-up, an upgrade, or whether replacing it would honestly make more sense.

⚠️ Your old router may still work—but is it still secure?

We often think about protecting our computers, but your router is the front door to everything connected in your home: computers, phones, TVs, cameras, gaming systems and even network storage.

Recent attacks have quietly compromised thousands of outdated routers and NAS devices—especially equipment that is no longer receiving security updates. The scary part? An infected device may continue working normally while attackers use it in the background.

JD’s Computers now offers Home-Network Security Checks, including:

✅ Router and NAS firmware updates
✅ Support-age and end-of-life checks
✅ Wi-Fi and administrator password security
✅ Remote-access exposure
✅ Guest Wi-Fi setup
✅ NAS user accounts and permissions
✅ Two-factor authentication
✅ Offline backup protection

If you don’t remember the last time your router was updated—or you have no idea how old it is—it may be time to have it checked.

💬 How old is the router currently running your home network?

🎓💻 Can’t find a good computer for school? Let me help.

I recently posted about making sure your student’s current computer is actually ready for college before move-in.

But what if it’s not?

Or maybe they don’t have one yet, and you’re currently staring at dozens of laptops wondering why one costs $400 and another costs $1,400 when they look almost identical. 😂

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

If you or your student needs a computer for college, message me with:

🎓 Their school and major
💻 What they’ll mainly be using it for
🎮 Any gaming, editing or other heavier programs
💰 Your budget

I can help you figure out what specs they actually need, what they don’t need, and help you look for a good new, used or refurbished computer that fits the job and the budget.

And I’m not going to automatically point you toward the most expensive thing on the shelf.

Sometimes a good refurbished business laptop for a few hundred dollars is a MUCH better buy than a shiny new bargain laptop that’s going to crawl by sophomore year.

Once you find one, JD’s Computers can help get it completely set up and college-ready too.

📩 Not sure what to buy? Send me a message. Even if you just want a second opinion on a computer you found, I’m happy to take a look.

🎓💻 Before you send your college student off with that laptop… when was the last time anyone actually checked it? 👀

College move-in is only a couple weeks away, and the LAST thing anyone wants is:

😬 A laptop that suddenly starts running slow
🔋 A battery that barely makes it through class
💾 A hard drive that's almost completely full
🦠 Malware or junk running in the background
📁 Important school files with NO backup
🖨️ A printer that decides it doesn't want to cooperate
💻 Or realizing AFTER move-in that everything from the old computer still needs transferred

That's why I'm offering a College Tech Ready Check through JD's Computers.

I'll check:

✅ Overall laptop health & performance
✅ Windows/macOS updates
✅ Available storage space
✅ Battery condition
✅ Malware & unwanted programs
✅ Backup status
✅ Data transfers if you're moving to a new computer
✅ Printer setup & troubleshooting
✅ Anything else that could become a headache once classes start

📅 U-M Move-In: August 26–30
📅 EMU Move-In: August 27–30
📚 Classes begin August 31

And parents, here's the big one:

If that laptop died tonight, would your student lose anything important?

If you had to think about that answer for a second… it might be worth having it checked. 😂

📩 Message JD's Computers before move-in and I'll help make sure their computer is ready to survive another semester.

📼 What’s the oldest VHS tape, camcorder tape, or family video you still need preserved?

Maybe it’s Christmas morning from 1994.
A family vacation.
Your kids when they were little.
A wedding, birthday, graduation, or someone you wish you could hear and see again.

Those old tapes weren’t made to last forever, and every year that passes increases the chance of deterioration, damage, or simply not having a working player anymore.

That’s where JD’s Computers can help.

I can help transfer and preserve your old family videos into modern digital formats so they’re easier to watch, store, back up, and share with your family.

📼 VHS tapes
🎥 Camcorder/home videos
💾 Digital copies for easier storage
💿 Disc options available as well

And if you have an old format sitting in a box and aren’t even sure what it is, send me a picture of it. I’ll help you figure it out.

👇 So I’m curious: what’s the oldest family video you know you still have? What year is it from?

Message JD’s Computers with questions or if you have a box of memories you’ve been meaning to finally preserve.

⚠️ YOUR COMPUTER SAYS WINDOWS 11—BUT IS IT STILL SUPPORTED?

I recently talked about Windows 10 support ending and the options available for people who aren’t ready to replace a perfectly good computer.

Here’s something many people don’t realize: Windows 11 versions have expiration dates, too.

Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro reaches the end of support on October 13, 2026. Your computer won’t suddenly stop working, but if it hasn’t updated to a newer supported version, it will stop receiving regular security and quality updates.

The good news? This usually does NOT mean you need a new computer. Many machines simply need a free Windows version update—but updates can sometimes become stuck, fail repeatedly or never install correctly.

Like I mentioned before, I still use a Windows 10 computer myself. I believe in keeping a good machine useful when it makes sense—not frightening people into buying something new unnecessarily.

That’s why every JD’s Computers tune-up will now include:

✅ Your exact Windows version and build
✅ Whether that version is still supported
✅ Missing, failed or stuck updates
✅ Compatibility with the newest supported version
✅ Honest advice about whether to update, upgrade or replace

Not sure which version you have? Press Windows Key + R, type winver, and press Enter.

You can send me a picture of what appears, or message JD’s Computers to schedule a tune-up and update-health check! 💻🔧

💻 Quick question: Do you know which version of Windows your computer is actually running?

Windows 10? Windows 11?
Or are you sitting there thinking... “It’s Windows. That’s about all I know.” 😂

You’d be surprised how many people aren’t sure, and that can matter when it comes to updates, security, software compatibility, and whether your computer still has some good life left in it.

👉 Want to check?

Press Windows Key + R, type winver, and hit Enter.

A little box will pop up showing exactly which version of Windows you’re running.

👇 Try it and drop your Windows version in the comments!
Windows 10? Windows 11? Something older still hanging on for dear life? 😆

And if you’re not sure whether your computer should be updated, upgraded, kept the way it is, or eventually replaced, send me a message.

I’d rather help you figure out what actually makes sense for your computer than tell you that you need a new one when you don’t.

🚨 TECH SUPPORT SCAMS ARE HITTING CLOSE TO HOME 🚨

A Ypsilanti woman recently encountered a fake Microsoft security warning that led scammers to install ScreenConnect, a legitimate remote-access program that can also be abused by scammers. According to WXYZ Detroit, she came dangerously close to losing $80,000.

These scams can look VERY convincing.

A warning suddenly pops up saying your computer is infected or compromised. It may display a Microsoft logo, make alarming noises, lock up your browser, or give you a number to call.

⚠️ Do NOT call the number.
⚠️ Do NOT give anyone remote access to your computer.
⚠️ Do NOT send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or banking information.

If you've already clicked something, called the number, or allowed someone into your computer, don't assume everything is okay just because the popup disappeared.

💻 JD's Computers can help with a Scam Cleanup & Remote-Access Audit, including:

✅ Checking for unauthorized remote-access software
✅ Removing suspicious programs and browser notifications
✅ Inspecting startup programs and background services
✅ Malware and spyware scans
✅ Checking browsers for malicious extensions or changes
✅ Helping secure compromised email and other accounts
✅ Making sure the scammers no longer have a way back into your computer

And if you're simply not sure whether a warning is legitimate, message me BEFORE clicking or calling anything. I'd much rather answer a quick question than see someone lose thousands of dollars.

📍 Serving Wayne & Washtenaw Counties

💬 Message JD's Computers if you think someone may have accessed your computer, or share this with a friend or family member who isn't comfortable dealing with computer warnings.

Scammers only need you to believe them for a few minutes. Knowing what to look for can shut the door before they get inside. 🔐💻
