RIP budget PCs?

Analyst firm Gartner is sounding the alarm: sub-$500 PCs could be gone by 2028, and the culprit is the AI-driven memory crisis.

Here's what's happening:
- DRAM & SSD prices are expected to surge 130% by end of 2026
- Memory will jump from 16% → 23% of a PC's total build cost
- That makes cheap, low-margin laptops financially nonviable for manufacturers
- Global PC shipments are already forecast to drop 10.4% in 2026, the steepest decline in over a decade

Translation: The $250–$500 PC you'd buy for a kid's schoolwork or a spare home computer? It may not exist in a few years.

Gartner analyst Ranjit Atwal put it bluntly: "This sharp increase removes vendors' ability to absorb costs, making low-margin entry-level laptops nonviable."

The irony? AI is eating the very market it was supposed to expand.

STEM toys these days are on a whole different level. Kits like this let kids tinker, problem-solve, and actually learn while they play. If I’d had anything like this as a kid, I probably would’ve taken apart fewer radios and VCRs just to see how they worked.

Good morning, and Happy Friday!

Just a heads up that we will be closing the office early today at about 2:30pm in order to start our setup for this weekend's Ruskin Seafood Festival with Misfit's Trinkets & Co!

The festival is FREE ADMISSION this weekend and is taking place Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm! Come on by and say hi, we'd love to see you! This event has TONS of vendors, festivities, and food trucks for the whole family to check out, so it's absolutely worth getting out to enjoy the beautiful weather and seeing what we all have to offer!

Our beloved Racheal and Charity will also be with us again this year, featuring all their high quality, handmade crocheted goods and plushies.

In addition, KnotCharity will be raffling off a GIANT CROCHETED TURTLE with all proceeds benefitting Firehouse Cultural Center, Ruskin, FL
Tickets for the turtle will be $5 each, cash only. We will be taking tickets all day Saturday, and Sunday morning, and drawing for our winner at 3pm on Sunday!

Phishing isn't just a nerdy IT problem. It's about people. Scammers pose as vendors, coworkers or managers to trick you into handing over money or sensitive info. They send emails, texts or social‑media messages that look legit... and they succeed because we're busy and trusting. Your IT team can build strong walls with firewalls, antivirus and endpoint detection, but a single click can undo all of that. One common trick targets payroll: scammers create or hijack an employee's email, then ask HR to change that person's direct‑deposit details. They may include fake forms or voided checks to look legitimate. Don't make changes based on an email alone... ALWAYS verify with the employee directly and require multiple approvals. • Slow down and verify. If you're asked for money or sensitive info... call or message the sender using a known contact method. (never trust an email/message source)
• Educate EVERYONE. Regular training and simulated phishing tests help employees spot scams.
• Think before acting. Be leery of requests that urge immediate action or offer deals that seem too good to be true.
• Use Multi-factor Authentication (MFA/2FA) and strong, unique passwords.
• Report and review. If you suspect a scam, report it and check your accounts regularly.
