Scams seem to be getting worse and worse, especially through telephone.

When in doubt, hang up and call the purported company back using a number you know is theirs.

Beware of Scam:
-Caller claimed to be St. George Police Chief Kyle Whitehead and called from the cloned number of our non-emergency dispatch, 435-627-4300.
-The caller claimed to be working with Home Land Security and provided an incident number of the case he was investigating. (The incident # was bogus.)
-The reporting person (RP) was suspicious so he hung up and called in to dispatch and learned the caller wasn't a SGPD representative.
-Because of this, they may have avoided a scam.
-Because the caller did not provide any personal information, it's unclear what his motive was. But it safe to assume it wasn't good.
-When in doubt, hang up!
-Never provide personal information over the phone unless you initiated the call and know who you are speaking with.
-Don't hesitate to hang up and call back to verify the information you received is accurate. This one step could save you a lot of heartache.
