When rowing your boat to shore, it's important to take extra care to prevent any damage to your vessel or the surrounding environment. Follow these simple steps to ensure a safe and eco-friendly landing:

• Approach the shore slowly and cautiously
• Keep an eye out for any potential hazards in the water
• Once you're close to shore, lift the oars out of the water and let the boat glide in
• Use a rope or anchor to secure the boat in place and prevent drifting

Boating is more fun when everyone on board is safe, which means wearing those life jackets at all times. “Even if you are a world-class swimmer, you should have one on. You can’t control the water temperature, you could get hit by something, it could be at night, you just gotta have a life jacket on.”

Doering says that people are out having fun and not always paying attention to safety.

Thank you to the U.S. Coast Guard for 233 years of service! Today, we salute all those who are currently serving or have previously served—thank you for your dedication to keeping the waterways and those that enjoy them safe.

The Coast Guard is one of America's five armed forces and traces its founding to Aug. 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue.
