Summer in Florida is brutal.

It's hot. Nobody wants to shop outside. My pier shop gets tumbleweeds this time of year.

My print clients slow down too. So yeah. Summer hits Wide Sky from every direction.

Here's the honest truth. This is my slowest stretch of the whole year.

I'm not here to guilt trip you. That's not my style.

Back in 5th grade I thought I was pretty cool.

Top of the elementary school food chain. King of the back of the bus. Living large at eleven years old.

One of my friends had a bag of gumballs that day. We were chewing away like it was our job. Then someone had a genius idea.

Let's spit the gum out the window at passing cars.

I KNOW.

But to a bunch of 5th graders? This was the most thrilling thing ever. We were laughing so hard we could barely aim.

Here's where it gets good.

One of my "friends" watched the whole thing without saying a word. She let us have our fun. Then the second we walked into school she marched straight to the teacher.

Cold. Calculated. Ruthless.

So there I am, getting called to the principal's office. Sister Kathleen was NOT pleased. Catholic school principals have a very specific look. It goes straight to your soul.

She called my parents right then and there. No bus for a week. Grounded at home too.

The kicker? My mom told me recently that her and my dad laughed their heads off after the school called. LAUGHED. They thought it was funny.

I was suffering and they were over there cracking up. Classic.

Anyway. Summer is HERE.

No school. No Sister Kathleen. No tattletales lurking in the back of the bus.

Just sunshine, good vibes, and that feeling of total freedom.
