New Visual Identity: Recently, I created a new logo and visual identity system for another one of my BNI partners, NorthStar Financial Coaching Kara Revell. Kara offers financial coaching to nonprofits, acting as a Fractional CFO (a term I didn't know until I met her!). NorthStar is Your Financial Compass, and the logo reflects several things at once — the bold Star shape inset with a north-facing compass arrow PLUS the letter "N" that could also be seen as a financial growth chart.

When you come to Mr. Freeland Design for a new logo, expect the unexpected. I am always intrigued by the 'secondary eureka' moment when we view logos. (i.e., the arrow in the FedEx logo or 31 in the Baskin-Robbins logo).

Did you know the legendary Paul Rand (designer of the IBM and UPS logos) created an unused logo for Ford Motor Company in 1966?

Creative inspiration can come at the craziest times - when you are trying to go to sleep and an idea hits you, or when you are waiting in the car to pick up your kid from school and you grab an envelope to sketch an idea. It’s the coolest moment when an idea finally makes it to the light of day and gives you a “Wow, this could actually work” kind of boost.

Don't leave your followers on Read. Someone takes the time to comment on your business post. Ask a question. Say something nice. Share an opinion. But you never respond. To them, that's a reason to stop commenting or even to stop following you.

Here's the fix: block 10 minutes a day for comments. Reply to every one of them, even with a simple thank you. A reply turns a one-time commenter into a repeat customer. People don't remember all of your posts. They remember how you made them feel when you took time out of your day to respond.

Okay, friends. Instagram updated their wordmark for some reason to make it less legible (they did not change the colored icon). What are your thoughts?
