Most successful phishing incidents are not caused by one careless employee. They happen when identity controls, visibility, and response processes fail at the same time.

In real environments, prevention comes from layers working together:

🔹User awareness to reduce initial clicks

🔹Strong identity controls like MFA to limit damage

🔹Email security and monitoring to detect and contain threats quickly

Training matters, but it cannot be the only line of defense.

If phishing is still treated as an employee problem instead of a security design problem, risk remains.

We're breaking it down:

Phase 1 is underway. CMMC requirements are beginning to appear in select contracts. If you handle CUI, expect Level 2 to apply in future contract cycles, even if certification isn’t required for every opportunity yet.

Primes are already managing CMMC flowdown and increasingly evaluating subcontractor readiness where CUI is involved.

Phase 2 begins November 10, 2026. At that point, Level 2 third-party certification becomes more common and is increasingly a condition of award.

The takeaway: waiting is risky. Once certification is required, preparation needs to be largely complete or you may be excluded before you can compete.
