Job applicants aren’t burritos 🌯

In a SHRM article on why candidates drop out of the hiring process, HR director Ken Meyer says: “I don't like it when hiring managers say to recruiters, ‘Keep the candidate warm’ [i.e., prolong the hiring process by staying in touch but not making an offer or refusal]. We're dealing with real people and can't treat people like we’re heating up a burrito. While we do not want to hurry employment decisions, we want to act quickly.”

Hiring managers should strive to find the sweet spot between an efficient, respectful hiring process and one that singles out talented candidates — such as by leaning on mobile-friendly applications, fewer redundant steps, better communication, transparent AI usage, and role-relevant assessments.

In a 2025 Deloitte report, over 30% of 600 manufacturing executives surveyed said their top concern was “equipping workers with the skills and knowledge they need to maximize the potential of smart manufacturing and operations.”

Competition for skilled labor in manufacturing remains high. As manufacturers invest in advanced tools and smart manufacturing, they must also invest just as intentionally in the evolving skillsets needed to use them.

Sourcing skilled, capable talent that is capable of taking on training is one of the ways to do that. And one of the most basic things to measure is: can they follow complex directions?

We had a wonderful time exhibiting at the San Antonio Manufacturer’s Association 25th Annual South-Central Texas Trade Show & Conference!

Among trash-collecting robots, specialty vehicles for drone operation, the latest CNC machine tech, and state-of-the-art cobots, we sure felt the energy of innovation all around the Freeman Coliseum.

We’re exhibiting at SAMA’s 25th Annual South Central Texas Manufacturing Trade Show & Conference next week! ⚙️🔨

Luckily for us, it’s at the Freeman Coliseum — just a hop, skip, and a jump from our office.

We’ll be at Booth #305 on Wednesday, May 6th, together with 170+ exhibitors to ooh and ahh over the latest advancements in manufacturing (well, we’ll be oohing and ahhing, they’ll probably be demonstrating their innovations).

So, what’s eSkill doing at a manufacturing trade show?

We’ll be talking about why skills-based hiring is the way forward for manufacturing — especially as the industry faces a widening skills gap, an aging workforce, and the growing need to bring younger talent into the field. We’ll also be discussing how Industry 4.0 and other technology advancements are reshaping the skills today’s manufacturing employees need to thrive, whether they’re seasoned pros or just starting out.

The number of lawyers getting caught up for using AI is practically endless, with cases noted in California, Louisiana, Florida, Colorado, Tennessee, New York, Massachusetts, Wyoming, Texas, and on and on. The list even includes Fat Joe’s former hype man’s lawyer, who has been caught repeatedly using AI in his court cases (on top of hurling insults at his opponents and ramming his car into a guy trying to serve him legal papers, but that’s a different story altogether).

According to the work of Damien Charlotin, a French lawyer and researcher who is compiling a list of such cases on his website, there have been over 1000 AI hallucination-related legal decisions around the world since he began tracking them last year.

Sometimes, these accused lawyers blame the paralegals. These are the exact workers some AI legal tools are trying to assist, or even replace.

Maybe lawyers should be a little more careful when using AI. And as for paralegals? They do far more than just prepare briefs.
