Access control is just how a building manages who can get in. A badge reader, keypad, or fob system. Older systems store everything locally, so pulling a log means a site visit. Newer, cloud-based systems let you check activity and manage access from a phone.

Phone service nationwide is shifting from old copper lines to VoIP.

What is VoIP? The tech that allows calls to travel over the internet instead of a dedicated phone wire.

AT&T stopped adding new copper lines in October 2025 and started retiring the old network this past June.

If you manage a property, gate boxes, elevator phones, and fire alarms are often wired through those same copper lines, so it's worth knowing what's connected before a move is needed.
