RSM Design is honored to see Bel Air Village recognized in the Communication Arts Typography Annual 15. This collaborative project with American Communities, CREO Industrial Arts, and CYRIL Kongo reimagined what community signage could be, with monumental letters rising 15 feet and illuminated totems stretching 35 feet into the Texas sky. Receiving the prestigious Typography Award affirms the power of innovative design to transform a simple entrance into a landmark that defines place.

When we partnered with organizations like the Balboa Park Conservancy, we’re not just designing signage systems; we’re helping to weave the cultural fabric that makes public spaces truly meaningful.

Our client for this collaboration, Tomás Herrera-Mishler, painted a picture of what drives us at RSM Design: creating design solutions that go beyond mere functionality to become integral parts of a community’s identity.

“Our design process involved a high level of participatory planning with key stakeholders. We partnered with RSM Design in transforming Balboa Park’s signage and wayfinding from pretty poor toward best-in-class. The firm provided us a steady guide and inspiration as we inventoried and mapped all the signage in and leading to the park. Their plan provided us with a contextually sensitive design that is extremely attractive to our donors and to the city’s parks and recreation department. It set the standard now for the entire park and is influencing system-wide donor recognition, advancing design from pedestrian to best-in-class.”

By engaging deeply with stakeholders and understanding the pulse of each location, we craft wayfinding systems that feel as if they’ve always belonged there, growing naturally from the soil of the places they serve.

At Fort Worth's T&P Station, every photograph tells a story of hope, courage, and new beginnings—like that of Elsa and Inge Kokotek, sisters who escaped N**i Germany and found freedom on the platform of this very station.

Working with local historians and families, RSM Design curated eleven powerful historical narratives, transforming the station's passageways into living testimony of the human spirit. For the Kokotek sisters' children, who hadn't known this photograph existed, seeing their mothers' smiling faces immortalized in our installation brought their family's story full circle.

Through thoughtful environmental design and wayfinding, we've created a space where yesterday's arrivals inspire today's travelers, reminding us that train stations aren't just points of transit—they're witnesses to life-changing moments in countless American stories.

At the heart of every successful design lies a profound understanding of place—a philosophy that has guided RSM Design's approach for over 25 years. In projects spanning from international getaways to modern developments in our own back yard, we've discovered that the most meaningful solutions emerge when we listen to what a place is trying to tell us. We're deeply grateful when collaborators like OJB Landscape Architecture recognize this commitment to creating spaces that don't just serve their purpose, but speak to the soul of a community.

James Burnett’s words remind us why we pour such care into every project: because when design honors the spirit of place, it creates lasting connections between people and their environment.

Great design doesn’t just guide—it invites.

At RSM Design, we believe in the power of wayfinding to create memorable moments for guests. By integrating signage with your brand’s identity, we craft systems that enhance and reinforce the brand’s atmosphere, making each journey feel intentional.

From the moment guests enter every key touchpoint, the design seamlessly integrates with the space, reflects the brand’s ethos, and creates a cohesive flow throughout. Every detail, from materials to messaging, is carefully curated to enhance the guest experience, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and immersed in the atmosphere.

Whether it’s a luxury resort or a vibrant urban retreat, wayfinding solutions are tailored to complement the unique ambiance and identity of each property.

At the heart of every RSM Design project lies a commitment to uncovering the unique story, history, and culture of a place. By weaving together these distinct elements, each design honors a community’s identity while embracing innovative expression. This approach allows us to celebrate the essence of diverse places around the world.

From the dynamic Riga Riverfront of Latvia and the historic architecture and coastal charm of Albania, each endeavor captures a unique narrative. By celebrating local traditions and integrating design principles, these projects reflect a deep respect for cultural identity. Through this immersive approach, RSM Design continues to expand upon the boundaries of architectural creativity on a global scale.
