The 2026 is here! Whether you’re hunting for last-minute tickets, checking match schedules, or catching up on team news, the digital world is buzzing. But remember: where there is excitement, there is often opportunity for cybercriminals.
Be on the lookout for Typosquatting!
What is it?
is when scammers register domain names that are almost identical to official sites—but with a tiny, easy-to-miss typo. They count on your excitement (and your speed) to lead you to a fake site that might look real but is designed to steal your data or install malware.
How to stay in the game:
Stick to the Source: Use official links from verified social media profiles or trusted news outlets.
Check the URL: Before you hit enter or input your login info, double-check that the spelling is perfect.
Bookmark it: Save your go-to ticket and news sites to your browser favorites so you don’t have to type them manually.
Look for the “Official” Badge: Verified accounts and official tournament partners are your safest bet.

The 2026 World Cup is here, and while the competition is heating up on the field, it’s also peak season for cybercriminals. ⚽️💻

A common threat you should be aware of is **typosquatting**. This is when hackers register domain names that are slight misspellings of official sites (like `fifa.com` vs `fiffa.com` or `fifa-tickets.vip`). They often clone the look and feel of the real website to trick fans into "buying" fake tickets, downloading malicious apps, or handing over personal and financial information.

**Stay in the game and keep your data safe with these quick tips:**

* **Type it yourself:** Avoid clicking on links in emails, texts, or social media ads. Type the official URL directly into your browser's address bar.
* **Bookmark the real site:** Save the official FIFA website and your favorite sports news sources to your "Favorites" or "Bookmarks" so you never have to type them from memory.
* **Check the URL:** Before entering any info (especially passwords or payment details), look closely at the address bar. Watch for subtle misspellings, extra letters, or different domain extensions (like `.org` or `.net` instead of `.com`).
* **Beware of "too good to be true":** If a site is offering tickets that are sold out elsewhere or at a massive discount, it’s likely a scam. Stick to official channels.

Your digital security is just as important as the match score. Stay vigilant, double-check your links, and don't let a typo ruin your tournament experience!
