Meet a new talent on Talent Service. David Tobrise is a 42 years old director of Technology and Product from Nigeria. He has 14 years of experience as a professional Software Engineer and Manager. David is now working at a Californian Nigeria based company.

“Currently I am responsible for supervising team leaders, team members and product’s managers. Also, I’m the head of Client Delivery Management. It has been 8 years since I took a manager’s role, and 14 years since I started my career as a developer. Throughout these years I have changed many IT roles, from a Fullstack Engineer to a Head of ICT & Engineering.

I found out about Talent Service on Facebook and was attracted by the job openings. I am looking for such positions as an Engineering Manager, Team Lead, Java Engineer or Developer.

For me, a good job would be as a Software Engineering Lead with room for research and development. I am open to relocation as looking for a job opportunity in Nigeria is a bit difficult. As I see it, working means creating value. However, it is often seen as input efforts which may or may not generate value. Even though there is a shortage of developers, their salaries here are pretty low, around $25,000-35,000. Therefore, I am open to overseas offers.

The idea of reverse recruitment behind Talent Service is a good one. It helps companies to make themselves attractive and employ people who want to grow with them. The truth is, there is no perfect developer, every IT talent is constantly learning and developing.

I hope that Talent Service will fulfill my expectations.”

David is skilled in Java, Spring Framework, PHP, DevOps, JavaScript, Python, Database, IT management.

Talent Service HRD Liliya Yakupova has contributed to a big interview of the Authority Magazine. In it, she shares her thoughts on the future of work and top trends to follow. These are 5 trends she suggests,

▪ Work from home culture

According to a Microsoft survey, 52% of people are thinking of switching to a full-time remote or hybrid job this year;

▪ Diversity

This is just a necessary precondition of a socially responsible business.

▪ Automation of many professions

More people will have an opportunity to get a well-paid job in the future, as highly-predictable jobs will be replaced by automation.

▪ ESG development culture

Environmental, social, and corporate governance is an important factor as 86% of employees say their employers aren’t doing enough to combat climate change.

▪ Reskilling

A 2019 PwC study found that 74% of surveyed employees were willing to learn new skills or retrain entirely to improve their employment prospects. At the same time, 87% of CEOs say that they notice skill gaps in their teams.

Meet Syed, a 22-years old full stack developer from Karachi, Pakistan.

“As many developers I started my journey in IT by learning things from the Internet. After some time of self-teaching, I mastered Python and went to freelancing platforms to get programming experience. First time I was struggling to communicate with clients but then my self-presentation skills evolved and 2 months later I got my first freelance job.

In my country, it’s not easy to find a programming job. Somehow companies don’t assess programmers for hard skills and give them a set of random interviews instead. This process is annoying and can take 2-3 months. I appreciate hiring platforms such as Talent Service because it gives you a fast and proper assessment for hard and soft skills and helps to find a company that would be a right fit for you.

Since early 2021, I have worked with multiple clients, adopted the best experience from my Silicon Valley colleagues and got a full-time remote job in a London-based startup. The experience I’ve had is amazing, and I’m ready for my next journey. I’m looking for a full-stack developer job, my technologies are Python, JavaScript, HTML, Css, Django, Flask and more. Open for remote job or relocation ✌️

We have made a guideline of how to build a SaaS product that will be in a demand. Just a short reminder that Talent Service is a SaaS product, too.

What steps would you take if you’d have decided to build one?

▪️ Define your product's value

As simple as that. Nobody wants to build a product nobody needs. 🤷‍♀️

▪️ Define your target audience

Make assumptions on what requires your product may cover. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

▪️ Validate your hypothesis and choose the tech stack.

You’ve decided what features you’re going to release in the first version and how (frontend, backend, database, hosting provider) — time for the action. ✔️

▪️ Find specialists who’ll build it for you.

You don’t have to start a whole company. Hire freelancers or contact a company specializing in digital transformation. However, make sure they follow the best practices (look at what stakeholders do). 🛠️

▪️ Test the product once it’s built.

Check your MVP on the target group, keeping in mind they are the masters of the situation. 👑

▪️ Now you are ready for the launch and eternal product improvement. 😀

Olie is our Junior Marketing Manager. She started her career in Talent Service 5 months ago, and has recently changed her position within the company. Here’s her story.

— How did you start your career in Talent Service?
I sent my resume to Talent Service. Furthermore, I was so eager to become a part of the company that called a recruiter who received my application documents. After interviews with a Senior Marketing Manager and HRD, I got a job of Lead Generation Specialist. My task was to interview talent about their job expectations and process the data afterwards. Interviews with talents helped me quickly learn all specific terms.

— When and how did everything change?
When I started my journey at Talent Service, I was told there might be two possible career prospects: recruitment or marketing. My choice was marketing, as some of my friends were marketing specialists, and it sounded familiar and exciting. I got a promotion quite fast, after four months only I became a part of the Marketing Team.

— What are your tasks now?
I am a Marketing Specialist now, my new tasks have nothing to do with what I had been doing before the promotion. Now I work on About Us page and product presentations, look for conferences we can participate, manage social networks. Of course, I was puzzled when I was given my new tasks, but I like that they provoke my independence. I’ve become a pro in Miro, YouTube tutorials helped a lot with it!

— Who is your mentor?
Our Senior Marketing Manager mentors me and sends materials, actually it’s in our corporate culture to exchange knowledge. For example, I have a friend in Analytical Department, and she is always open to sharing her experience.

— What was the toughest moment within these five months?
It was my second day at work, when we switched to remote work due to the corona case, so we could not attend the office for almost a month. However, the whole recruitment crew was here to help.

— Career plans?
I’d like to improve practical skills and communication. Also, I dream about building my own team where I will inspire my peers, not only be inspired by my great coworkers.

One of the common mistakes in scheduling meetings is the lack of time. Any person planning a meeting expects that all members will be involved, short-spoken and motivated. Quite often, this perfect planning ends up with no results. We suggest that you keep in mind various distracting factors. And here they are:

▪️ Start (20 mins)

5 mins to wait for those who are coming late, 5 mins for Lauren to fight her mic settings, 5 mins listening to Armen’s “oops, my Miro board is not working today…” And finally all of a sudden it’s someone’s birthday –– 5 mins more.

▪️ Explanations (+5 mins for each task)

People tend to ask questions after you give a task, so don’t forget to set time for it.

▪️ Splitting into groups

If you are planning to use breakout rooms, set time to divide participants into rooms and time for the discussion itself.

▪️ Sharing the results

To deal with a tough task, having questions and discussions is extremely important. Think of how long it may take beforehand.

▪️ Setting goals (at least 20 mins)

The trickiest part is planning further tasks and goals. Making up action points, deadlines and receiving the team’s commitment will take at least 20 mins.

P.S. Our favorite part of scheduling meetings is planning time for a talkative workmate, who may remember an anecdote in the middle of discussion. If you stop your peer, he/she may get offended and shirk the discussion.

Try to follow these tips, and you’ll see how good timing results in effective and meaningful meetings.

Here are some communication rules we follow to make people feel comfortable when working in teams and interacting with their coworkers. We hope they will bring positive changes to your regular workflow.

▪️ Should you have any question or issue, do not wait for your peers to come up with the solution, make your own suggestions first, so that your workmates could choose from your options;

▪️ When communicating in messengers, some people send a hello-message and then start typing the description of the issue itself. Don’t be these people;

▪️ When you suddenly have a brilliant idea late in the evening, send delayed emails not to bother your colleagues on their free time;

▪️ Do the search before asking a question;

▪️ Employees of international companies work in different time zones. Instead of remembering the time difference, always clarify the convenient time with a person first;

▪️ Before scheduling a meeting, think about the number of participants, timing, duration, goals and results you want to reach. If you invite 10 people to a 30-minute Zoom call and do not set the goals, it will not be productive;

▪️ Does your question require a meeting or can be resolved in a short message/email?

▪️ If there is even one employee who works remotely, other members of a team settled in one office should connect to the meeting separately from their personal devices;

▪️ Check your camera and mic before you join an online meeting. Make sure there is no background noise.
