As everyone jumps into the New Year, we know that there is plenty on the minds of small business owners.

We thought we would simplify for you what your business should be focusing on tech-wise.

Last week Michelle attended the very first Experience Velocity Conference in Los Angeles which aimed to spotlight the untapped economic power of Latinos as consumer, entrepreneurs, and workforce in the U.S. mainstream economy.

Here are some highlights from the 3 day conference:

Day 1: Understanding the economic impact Latinos have in the USA.

We are 19.5% of the population, yet account for 68% of auto sales, 50% of food and beverage sales and 36% of travel/leisure sales.

Day 2: L ’attitude Ventures presented 12 Latino Entrepreneurs they have funded.

Incredibly diverse industries, ranging from sustainable beauty products (Nopalera), preservation gardening products (Back to the Roots), women’s mental health care (Mavida Health), to energy conserving tech (Omnitron Sensors).

Day 3: Latinos in Media.

A panel on Hollywood in the 21st Century with producer Rick Telles, actor and director Jay Hernandez, and actor and filmmaker Cristo Fernandez. Some lessons that stood out include:

- It is important for young Latinos to see themselves in a variety of roles in movies and tv not just the negative stereotypical ones

- Hollywood as an industry has learned to expect Latino audiences to show up to the box office regardless of whether we are represented well or at all

- You as an audience have the power to use your wallet to show the industry what we do and do not want to see

- Often the more specific a story is the more universal it ends up feeling.

Have you attended any interesting business events lately? Would you attend the next Velocity conference?

July was a busy month for us, filled with celebrations, new experiences and enjoying our classic San Francisco fog. Here is a little of what we got up to:

- We had an incredible photoshoot that showcased the beauty of our city

- Kalun celebrated 8 years at ProActive

- Ceila celebrated 3 years at ProActive

- The Dev/mission Summer 2025 cohort for their pre apprenticeship program joined us for a site visit

- We learned a little bit about what our client Asia Society does at their event titled, " Shifting Currents: U.S. - China Economic Policy in Transition"

What did you get up to this July?

Whenever we network with other small business owners, we often get asked, "What are the top technology concerns I should address with my small business today?" These are the 3 tips that we never fail to mention because they are so vital.

We know that as small businesses implement new pieces of technology, it is important to take steps that ensure they are saving time and money, not causing more stress.

What questions do you have about technology and your business?

This Mother's Day we want to celebrate the incredible mothers who work on our team everyday, bringing us their incredible talents and dedication while also taking on the challenges of motherhood. It is no small feat to tackle an impressive career while brilliantly raising the next generation.

"Working alongside my mother in the family business has given me a new-found appreciation for how hard she works, how brilliant she is, and how impressive it is that she has masterfully raised three kids while running a successful business." Ceila Flores, ProActive Marketing Designer.

Thank you, Sylvia, Michelle and Tasha for all that you do!

Is there a mother in your life who you want to commend for tackling a career or business ownership alongside motherhood?

Shout them out in the comments!

We kicked off May with another fantastic San Francisco Small Business week. We were excited to see an offering of so many new events and networking opportunities this year.

Here are some events and resources that stood out to us!

New Roots/ New Routes Conference hosted by the USF Gellert Family Business Center:
- We learned about Mayor Daniel Lurie's plans for initiatives that will make getting permits and support for small businesses easier
- We met some incredible small business owners: Rosalyn Acosta of Live Heal Travel and Shafia Nisa of Hakuna Matata Vibes

Gellert Family Business Award Ceremony
- We saw family owned business awardees Tin Wah Noodle Co. ,Luster National, Inc, and Clement Nursery, be recognized for their unique investment in their communities
- The criteria for this award includes a history of contributing to community based activities and having family actively managing the business.

Pause/Pausa hosted by Becca Bloom of BB Events and Tanya Reyes of Tanya Reyes Consulting
- We loved attending an event that was focused on reminding business owners to unwind and connect with other small business owners
- Activities like bracelet making let us take a reminder to rest with us after the event
- We enjoyed delicious food from WeFeastSF and Big Bites.

Thank you to the San Francisco Chamber, San Francisco office of Small Business, Small Business Administration, Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and Score for an incredible week of events.

Seeing our incredible community of San Francisco Small Businesses gives us hope and even more love for our incredible city!

Now what can we do about it?

This Women's History Month, we're sharing 3 action items that uplift Women In Tech and the innovations they are bringing to the table

1. Let's Talk About It
All great ideas start with great conversations. Women are just as impacted by changes and innovation in the tech world, so let's talk about why they aren't always in the room where tech is created.

2. Support Women Led Tech Companies
The first couple years of a tech start up are the hardest. When the public shows vocal interest in a new tech startup, it tells investors it's time to get on board too.

3. Support Great Orgs
There are so many incredible organizations helping to get young girls interested in tech and helping women already in tech with the resources they need to succeed. Donate your time, money or expertise to supporting the next generation of female tech talent.

Check out our monthly newsletter to learn about some incredible organizations changing the game for Women in STEM!

We often get asked: Why do you choose to specifically work with small businesses?

So we thought we would share a couple of our favorite reasons.

We are deeply saddened by the fires that have devastated the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of everyone who have lost their lives, homes, and businesses. ❤️
This hits especially close to home as many of us have friends, and family who live there, or grew up in Southern California ourselves. The Los Angeles and Bay Area Communities have always been deeply intertwined, and we know that by working in community together, we will be able to help our friends and family rebuild and start anew.

Below are some wonderful organizations who are on the ground helping families with necessities like food, shelter, and clothes, as well as supporting people in rebuilding their lives and businesses. If you are able to, please donate your money, time, or necessary items to any of these wonderful organizations.

Please share with friends and family. ❤️
