Do you see what I see? 🤓

This is an SMC chip (system management controller) it’s in charge of things such as charging the battery, power management, sleep and awake, LED indicators, and more.

This laptop stopped powering on after liquid got spilled on it.

Please remember not to plug in your electronics after a liquid spill. When electricity ⚡️ and liquid 💦 meet 🤢 it corrodes. No electricity no corrosion. There’s a lot higher probability of repair 👩‍🔧

Tech Tip Tuesday from your friendly neighborhood repair technicians! 🧑🏽‍💻

PRAM stands for “Parameter Random Access Memory.”

This section of memory holds current system information, power management settings, and other MacOS uses.

Sometimes the PRAM becomes scrambled and needs to be reset/zapped.

If the PRAM needs to be zapped you will experience symptoms like:
- Erratic volume behavior
- Keyboard response issues
- Mouse scrolling issues
- Wrong time zone/clock information
- Monitor acting strange
- Drive not mounting properly

To zap/reset the PRAM:
1. Make sure the machine is turned off
2. Turn the machine on, press & hold down the following 4 keys at once:
COMMAND + OPTION + P + R

While holding them down you will hear the computer “hiccup” and chime to reboot. Release keys once you hear it.
