The Cold Truth About SEO
The term SEO came about when search engines were new, could be easily tricked, and there was no means of checking validity. Today, modern search engines ignore many of these SEO "tricks", and the remaining is simply good web design. Having a site that has content focused, an easy-to-navigate structure, proper HTML coding including keywords, and a proper sitemap are all that is needed to secure a decent result on a search engine. Submission is a one time thing that is as simple as filling out a web form.
Therefore, if you are building a site, and the designer offers to through in SEO for an additional fee (monthly or otherwise), be wary. However, if you find yourself with an already built site that has been around for several months with no results, or poor results, on any modern search engine, the original developer probably cut a few corners. The total amount of work to bring a site to search-engine compliance is usually about 2-3 hours.
We provide this honesty because we at Web Dev are looking to bring truth back to the web services industry. Feel free to share. . .
