Nearly 1 **Billion** birds were in the sky migrating south last night. We knew it would be a big night, but the birds beat model estimates by a significant margin. Honestly tonight has the potential to be even bigger. Now through Sunday is the most important time to turn off those outdoor lights to help migrating birds on their journey south. I will post a link later today on other ways you can help birds. Take a look at that national radar picture near midnight last night. Most of the colors were birds, and the big bird surge was in the red circle. Our entire area will be in that zone tonight.

đŸª¶ A rare new feathered Texan has been spotted — the Grue Jay! It’s a one-of-a-kind hybrid between a green jay and a blue jay, discovered in San Antonio. Scientists say these two birds split about 7 million years ago, so this pairing is beyond rare. Some think shifting climates brought their ranges together.
Pretty wild to see history (and nature) being made in our own backyard!

If you live in the Pacific Northwest you most likely have heard this bird before you ever saw it. The Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius) is a striking yet elusive bird. This shy songbird thrives in the dense forests but can also be found under bird feeders in late winter and early spring.

What truly sets the Varied Thrush apart is its haunting, ethereal song—a single, drawn-out note, eerily resonant and flute-like, followed by a pause before the next tone. Each note is clear, pure, and slightly metallic, often descending in pitch and delivered in a slow, spaced-out pattern sometimes compared to a whistle.

Check out the sounds in your iBird Pro app to learn the calls of this special bird.

The ‘Lord God bird’ may not be extinct after all

There hasn't been a confirmed sighting of the large woodpecker since 1944, but an Auburn University ornithologist says he and other researchers have found 'strong evidence' that the bird may still be out there.

!Migration Alert! BirdCast is predicting a huge number of birds migrating across the Central and Eastern U.S. for the next three nights. It's also a good time to turn off nonessential indoor and outdoor lights for birds. Sadly, birds can be disoriented by light pollution, contributing to the hundreds of millions of birds estimated to die in building collisions in the U.S. every year.
