Google Ads is changing the way it deals with broad match modifier, incorporating it further into phrase match. This is another effort by Google to let the machines work harder. Google's net income in 4Q-2020 was over $15 gazillion (OK, only billion), up about 43% from the prior year. We love Google services because they are pretty darn good, but seriously, how can any other company (other than another behemoth) hope to compete?

I like this advice from Tony Wright at Search Engine Journal for small (or just-starting) websites. It's very hard to beat your "Goliath" competitor with a ton of links going back to Goliath's website for search engine results. So focus first on getting your ship in order and then exploit what Goliath may not be doing. Generally, focusing on your own site is key. Deliver a great website, build it out over time, and visitors will come.

Concentrating on your competitor, and not your own site is a losing situation. Learn the smart strategy to use when competing with bigger websites.

This article discusses, in a sense, what I've been telling clients and prospective clients lately - that SEO is about delivering a solid user experience that is also understandable by search engines. I don't like the jargon of the term "SEO", as in practice it means so much more than simply catering to the ever-changing whims of Google.

Technical SEO continues to be the foundation upon which any successful strategy is built. Here's why technical SEO is more important than ever.

Google's deindexing bug, now apparently fixed, shows (again) that Google is not perfect. It also shows how dangerous it is to rely so much on a single source for finding what we want on the tubes. Have you used a different search engine today?

Google has confirmed the issue which manifested last week causing pages to be deindexed is now fully resolved.

DuckDuckGo makes the big time, now a default option in Chrome. We’ve been saying for years this is a search engine to pay attention to.

Has your site’s traffic been impacted by the latest Google algorithm change? Don’t mean to sound harsh, but spend less time worrying about Google and more time worrying about delivering an awesome website to visitors.

A rare Google confirmation came related to a Google search algorithm update this week. Google restated previous advice that there is no fix if your site was negatively impacted.
