Have you noticed how much utility work seems to be happening everywhere lately?

Sometimes it’s obvious road construction or paving. Other times it’s just a few trucks, cones, utility markings, a small section of pavement opened up – and a new asphalt patch when the work is finished.

There’s a reason we tend to see so much of it at once.

In Illinois, warmer months give crews a better window for excavation, restoration and other outdoor work. At the same time, water, sewer, gas, electric and telecommunications networks all have their own projects and schedules. Repairs, new connections, upgrades and relocations can all be happening independently in the same area.

So the crew you pass today may have nothing to do with another work zone a few blocks away tomorrow, even though from the driver’s seat it can feel like construction is everywhere.

And those small patches of fresh asphalt? Often, they’re simply the last visible sign of the work that was completed there.

It may not make the traffic any less frustrating, but at least the orange cones start to make a little more sense. 🙂

Every day, our crews send photos from the field.
They are meant for supervisors, so they can confirm that everything is set up correctly and work is progressing as planned. Quite often, those photos capture quiet residential streets with tree-lined neighborhoods, well-kept homes, and a sense of calm.

And then you notice someone working high above the ground on a utility pole.
Most people who live on that street probably won't think much about it. And that's probably the best outcome.

When infrastructure works the way it should, it becomes almost invisible.

These moments are a reminder that behind every reliable connection is someone doing work that most people will never see. It's not always the most noticeable part, but it helps everyday life continue without interruption.

🦺 Safety always comes first!

In telecom construction, safety isn't something that's discussed once – it's reinforced every day through planning, communication, and continuous learning.

At Techcom, we hold regular safety seminars and field discussions to ensure our crews stay up to date on best practices, industry standards, and job site procedures. Topics range from utility locating and potholing to equipment safety, hazard awareness, and safe work practices.

By investing in ongoing training, we strengthen our safety culture, improve operational excellence, and help ensure every project is completed safely and responsibly.

Our commitment is simple: protect our people, our customers' infrastructure, and the communities where we work.

Because the best projects are built safely – from the ground up.
Stay safe. Build smart. 🧡

The technology behind fiber networks continues to evolve, but one challenge remains the same: finding experienced field leaders.

Strong supervisors and managers help keep crews productive, projects on schedule, and work completed safely and efficiently.

As broadband infrastructure continues to grow, experienced field leadership remains one of the industry's most valuable assets.

The future of broadband depends not only on technology, but on the people leading its deployment every day in the field.

Traffic control and cable placement go hand in hand on active roadways.

Before any cable is placed, the work zone has to be properly set – lane closures, cone patterns, and clear crew positioning. Once secured, placement moves step by step alongside live traffic.

It’s a coordinated process: managing flow, maintaining safety, and controlling cable handling throughout the pull. From setup to final placement, every movement matters.

This is what it takes to keep projects moving without disrupting the environment around them.

Splicing might not look like the biggest part of the job, but it’s one of the most important.

Here the crew couldn’t park equipment right in front of the house, so they set up a small workstation and worked off a table instead. Not the easiest setup, but the work still has to be done right.

That means taking time with fiber prep, handling it carefully, and making sure everything is clean before the splice.

It’s the kind of work you only notice when it’s done wrong – so we focus on getting it right the first time.
