This attack on consumer freedom and rights to privacy has to stop! Until now, Google has been the only major tech company to allow users the freedom to decide what apps are installed on their devices. Google is planning on ending this freedom in less than 6 months. This hostile corporate invasion on every facet of our technical lives needs to end.

I was contacted by a person who received an email from one of their contacts posing as a signed document with a file attachment called Scan-doc.msi. When the attachment was opened it prompted the user to enter the computer admin password which, after entered, allowed it to establish a remote host connection for a malicious 3rd party.

When the user stopped using the computer the attacker blocked the screen with a custom privacy image stating the computer was installing updates and should not be turned off. They used the email address that was setup on the computer to send 100s of emails with the same attachment which then alerted the user to the problem.

The incident was reported to ScreenConnect and the file was submitted for analysis.

In the 90s my Dad was complaining to his friend that all I did was play video games on the computer. His friend, who was in IT at the time, said "He's installing software and troubleshooting/upgrading the computer to make those games work."

His friend was right. I ended up helping my high school setup their computer lab, which led to my first computer repair job, which turned into running my own IT Consulting business. Playing computer games turned into a 25+ year career.

Encourage kids to do what they love. You never know what it might turn into.

This is the antivirus I've been recommending for 7+ years. It was one of the few to stop wannacry ransomware that was all over the news in 2017.

KnowBe4 cyber security releases reminder to be weary of what you plug into your computer.

This attack requires the hacker to be within physical range of your computer to transmit malicious code which makes this a much less common threat, but you should still be cautious of plugging in devices of unknown origin.

My dad was a Xerox salesman in the 70s. They had the first privately owned computer network and developed the first personal computer with a mouse, keyboard and graphical interface in the early 70s. But the corporate heads wanted to focus on making copies of paper.
