Not one of, but *the* oldest golf course in the world known for hosting 29 Open Championships and its unique features:
▪️Double greens - two holes sharing the same putting surface with only 4 greens that serve just one hole (1, 9, 17, and 18)
▪️The Hell Bunker - a 300 sq meter and 10 foot deep sand trap on 14
▪️The Swilcan Bridge - a stone bridge over 700 years old on the 18th hole initially created for shepherds to move their flock across the stream has been crossed by the game’s best

While the participation sizes are roughly the same, the demographics between an on-course and off-course* golfer are anything but. The average age of an off-course only golfer is nearly two decades younger than on-course only players, while also skewing closer U.S. population in terms of gender and race ethnicity.

The interest is there. We believe that by increasing access to the game, lowering the cost, and quickening the overall time it takes to be competitive, more individuals from all backgrounds will participate and play on-course.

*Off-course golf includes golf entertainment venues (Topgolf, Drive Shack, etc.), standalone driving ranges, and/or the hundreds of businesses that now have simulators and screen golf setups.

Fair Ways’ goal is to accelerate the transformation of golf diversity and inclusion in future generations through accessible golf data, education, and course information, all while narrowing the gap between competitive golfers.

Of the nearly 29,000 PGA of America members, fewer than 1 percent are African Americans and under 10 percent are women. While women comprise 25% of golfers and people of color 21%, with both groups having increased meaningfully over the past five years, there is still a long road to expose the game and the opportunities it offers, specifically for the youth in underserved communities.
