Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a camera stolen from your classroom 👋
My very first year of teaching, I kept my cameras in their camera bags and had them on a bookshelf. One day, a student just didn’t put the camera back into the camera bag and instead put it in their backpack and put the camera bag on the shelf.
I was new to teaching and had so much to learn. My first mistake was using the original camera bags that you can’t see through. My second mistake was not double checking that the cameras were put away at the end of the period before the bell would ring.
With each new class, I tried something different and with each new class I learned something new. But ultimately I found a system that I ended up really liking was using baskets where I could see through them, and I had them on a rolling cart that I could put into a locked room at the end of each period. It allowed me to quickly see all of my camera cameras were turned back in and if anything was missing or damaged very easily.
Now at the school, I don’t have my rolling cart yet and instead I have a giant UV container, but I do have a smaller rolling cart and I do plan on only bringing out a handful of cameras at a time in the beginning and I will be using the basket method.
