Windows 10 came out on July 29 2015. I did not recommend upgrading to it then as any new operating system is released with known and unknown bugs. On November 11, 2015, a major upgrade was issued and became known as version 10.1511. Recent press releases from Microsoft say that Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows and that it will issue upgrades periodically much like Appleās OS X. The next upgrade to Windows 10 is scheduled for July 29th, 2016 and will be version 10.167. Do not confuse these upgrades with updates as updates are continually push out.
Microsoft has been offering free upgrades to Windows 10 for current users of Windows 8 and Windows 7. The free upgrade offer ends coincidentally on July 29, 2016 one year after its release. Another date to consider is January 1 2020 as that is the date when updates and support for Windows 7 ends.
In light of the fact that Windows 10 is here to stay, it may behoove you to take advantage of the free upgrade (a $100 savings).
If you would like help with this upgrade, let me know. I can customize it to look a lot like Windows 7 and remove a lot of the unneeded apps.
