I've been sharing realizations that changed my career path. I used to feel like parts of me had to stay outside the room to fit in, but I realized the problem wasn't the tech I love—it was alignment.

For years, I chased growth by learning and achieving more, but I noticed many accomplished women feeling disconnected despite their success. Different aspects of my life felt separate—work, values, relationships—lacking alignment.

What if my professional strengths and passions could coexist? That question transformed everything.

I believe alignment is created when our experiences, values, and relationships support each other. I want to see women embrace a holistic definition of success that includes achievement, meaning, authenticity, and security.

The most fulfilling transformations happen when we allow ourselves to be who we truly are.

The problem was never tech.

The problem was having to leave parts of myself at the door.

When people hear that I am pivoting, they often assume the story is about burnout, frustration, or dissatisfaction. It isn't.

I entered tech in midlife and found opportunities to refine strengths I had spent years developing—strategy, systems thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and helping people navigate change. The work challenged me, stretched me, and gave me opportunities to grow.

What became difficult was something more subtle.

The expectation that professionalism meant showing only certain parts of yourself.

Many organizations say they value authenticity. But often what they really mean is authenticity within accepted boundaries. I think many women understand this experience. Not because we're incapable or unsuccessful, but because we learn which parts of ourselves are welcomed, rewarded, and easy to bring into the room—and which parts are easier to leave outside.

Over time, I realized compartmentalization is a useful survival strategy, but it's not a long-term strategy for fulfillment.

What I wanted wasn't less ambition. I wanted more alignment. I wanted my work, values, relationships, and inner life to support one another instead of living in separate silos.

That realization changed how I think about success.

Because sustainable success isn't built by becoming less of yourself. It's built by integrating more of yourself.

I pivoted into security after building a successful career in tech, because I no longer wanted to leave parts of myself outside the room just to fit in.

For years, I built a successful career doing work I genuinely enjoyed. I solved complex problems, built systems, helped people learn, and found satisfaction in creating clarity where there was confusion.

But beneath that success was something many women experience and rarely talk about.

The quiet pressure to edit ourselves.

No one hands you a rulebook. No one tells you outright which parts of yourself belong and which don't. You simply learn what is welcomed, what is rewarded, and what is easier to leave unsaid.

For me, the strategist belonged. The trainer belonged. The practical problem-solver belonged.

Other parts of me felt harder to explain. The reflective part. The intuitive part. The part that cared deeply about meaning, personal growth, and the deeper questions beneath the work.

So I learned what many women learn: how to compartmentalize.

For a long time, that seemed perfectly reasonable. Maybe even necessary.

What I didn't realize was that the parts of myself I kept separate were often the very qualities helping me stay resilient, navigate uncertainty, and remain grounded through difficult seasons.

Eventually, I realized I didn't want a life built from compartments.

I wanted alignment.

Not perfection. Not reinvention.

Just the freedom of bringing more of myself into the life I was already living.

Today, I don't see my past career and the work I do now as separate chapters. I see them as part of the same story. The difference is that now, all of those parts get a seat at the same table.

I feel like I’m standing on the street corner outside a car dealership where people are being sold the most fantastic car in the world for dirt cheap.

The only problem? It has no brakes.

I’m outside yelling that they really need brakes. They pretend not to hear me or know what brakes are.

The first tank of gas is free.
The tank keeps filling itself while you’re not paying attention.
The tank has no limit.
You feel free, driving the superhighway without a care in the world.
Next month, your bank account is overdrawn by $40,000 for the gas you didn’t know you bought.
Just kidding, it’s $400,000 and a liability lawsuit.

Sound ridiculous?
