Happy Halloween from RVS Technology Group

When IT Gets Spooky

Cyber threats don’t just haunt your systems on Halloween. They’re lurking every day.

At RVS Technology Group, we help protect your business with security designed to identify evolving threats, infrastructure built to support your organization and dependable IT support when you need it.

Because the scariest thing this Halloween isn’t a skeleton at your keyboard.

It’s unprotected data.

Good IT should make technology feel simple.

Behind that simplicity should be layers of protection, monitoring, updates, access controls, backups and ongoing technology management.

Your employees shouldn’t have to become IT experts to do their jobs.

That’s where the right technology partner comes in.

RVS Technology Group helps businesses manage the complicated part so their teams can focus on running the business.

Just because a computer or application still works doesn’t necessarily mean it should still be part of your business.

Software eventually reaches the end of its supported life. When that happens, security updates and technical support can change or end.

Regular technology reviews help businesses identify aging systems before they become bigger operational or security concerns.

Don’t wait until something breaks to think about replacing it.

Secure beyond MFA.

For the close of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, RVS Technology Group is reminding teams that a password alone is not enough.
Important accounts should be locked with more than one check: something you know, like a password or PIN; something you have, like an authenticator app or smart card; and something you are, like a fingerprint or face scan. Multi-factor authentication stops most stolen passwords from becoming a login.
One layer is a start. Layered access is the standard.

RVS Technology Group helps Central Coast businesses put MFA, password managers, patching, and monitoring in place, so the habits from this month stay in place after October.

Cybersecurity technology matters, but employee awareness matters too.

Teach your team to question unexpected payment requests, password requests, unfamiliar attachments and unusual login prompts.

Most importantly, create an environment where employees feel comfortable stopping and asking before acting.

Five minutes spent verifying something suspicious can prevent a much bigger problem.

What you see: Wi-Fi that works.

What RVS sees: the security, monitoring, authentication, filtering and protection working behind the scenes to keep your business connected and protected.

Good IT should feel simple. We handle the complicated part.

Use a password manager.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, RVS Technology Group is reminding teams that a spreadsheet or encrypted text file is not a safe place for passwords.

Those documents are easy to copy, share by mistake, or break into. Login details belong in a password manager. Many also store payment and personal information, and can share credentials securely when a teammate needs access.

One strong, unique password per account. The manager remembers them so your team does not have to.

RVS Technology Group helps Central Coast businesses put password managers and multi-factor authentication in place, so a reused password does not become a company-wide problem.

“We have backups.”

Good.

Now ask another question: Can you successfully recover from them?

Businesses should understand what is being backed up, how frequently backups occur and how recovery would work if important information suddenly became unavailable.

The goal isn’t simply having a backup.

The goal is getting your business operating again.

Keep every system patched.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, RVS Technology Group is reminding teams that an update is not optional maintenance. It is a closed door.

Vendors release patches to fix weak points in apps, browsers, operating systems, and firmware. Left unpatched, those gaps can be used to steal data, plant malware, or open a backdoor for the next intrusion.

Install security updates as soon as they are released. Do not wait for a quiet week.

RVS Technology Group helps Central Coast businesses keep patching consistent across every device, so a known vulnerability does not become an open invitation.

Here’s a cybersecurity question every business owner should be able to answer:

Who currently has access to your systems and information?

Employees change roles. People leave companies. Vendors change. Devices get replaced.

Regularly reviewing accounts and access permissions helps ensure people only have access to what they actually need.

Cybersecurity includes knowing who can get in.
