Using the same password twice means a breach at some site you forgot about can get someone into your business email. Attackers take leaked passwords and try them everywhere automatically. A strong password doesn't help if you reused it. Use a password manager and turn on MFA.

AI applications open the door to new ways of working, but they also introduce real questions about data security, privacy, and compliance.

One thing your colleagues may not fully appreciate is how much of your role happens away from technology.

You can spend an afternoon discussing risk with finance, walk straight into a meeting about business priorities, and finish the day explaining why a piece of work that feels important to IT hasn't made it into this year's budget 😵‍💫

The business wants to understand where money is going and what comes back in return.

That's sensible.

But a growing amount of IT investment is tied to areas where the value is wrapped up in avoiding disruption, reducing exposure, improving recoverability.

You know, making sure the business can keep operating when something eventually goes wrong.

And that needs a different kind of explanation.

You must help people understand operational consequences, financial exposure, supplier dependency, regulatory obligations, and how comfortable the organization feels carrying particular risks.

A lot of preparation goes into those discussions.

You find yourself gathering information from different places, checking assumptions and looking at possible outcomes.

Not to forget the careful thinking about how the message will land with people that have different day-to-day responsibilities than you.

Meanwhile, everything else still needs to be done.

📍 Projects still need attention
📍 Users still need support
📍 Security work still needs moving forward
📍 Suppliers still need managing

The leadership side of the role grows without anything else becoming less important.

It creates a lot of pressure.

It's one of the reasons co-managed support becomes a key part of the structure for IT directors.

It gives you options.

Having additional operational support available can create enough time and space for the work that only you can do.

Board reporting… stakeholder management… planning… investment decisions… the list goes on.

💭 Do you spend as much time as you'd like on that part of the role, or does operational work still have a habit of taking over?

One of the questions I hear more often is: "Can I trust AI to tell me whether something is a scam?" 🤔

Until recently, I'd have been cautious with that.

AI is brilliant at explaining things, but when it comes to cybersecurity, being almost right isn't good enough.

That's why I think this latest development is interesting.

Norton has integrated its Genie scam detection tool into both Claude and ChatGPT.

It means people can ask an AI assistant to help assess whether an email, text message, website or online offer looks suspicious 👀

The AI isn't giving its own opinion, it’s drawing on Norton's scam detection technology, which looks for things like impersonation, pressure tactics, suspicious links, and requests for sensitive information.

It's combining the conversational side of AI with technology that's specifically designed to identify scams 🔎

But I don't think people should stop thinking for themselves.

If an email claims your bank account is about to be closed or a supplier suddenly wants you to change their payment details, you should still check independently.

Tools like this could become useful as a second opinion though.

Online scams are becoming much harder to spot than they were a few years ago.

Criminals are using AI to write more convincing emails, create more believable websites, and remove the spelling mistakes that used to give them away 🤖

Anything that helps people pause and sense-check what they're looking at must be a positive step.

I can also see this becoming part of everyday working life.

Instead of forwarding a suspicious email to a colleague and asking, "Does this look right to you?", people may increasingly ask an AI assistant first.

It should never replace security awareness or good internal processes.

But it could help you make better decisions before you click a link or reply to a message.

👉 Would you trust an AI assistant to help you decide whether something was a scam, or would you still rather rely on your own judgment?

Google put out an emergency Chrome update in June 2026 for a flaw attackers were already using. Just visiting a bad web page is enough to get hit, no clicking needed. Click the three dots, Help, About Google Chrome, then Relaunch. Updates only take effect once you restart.

Google released security updates for 74 Chrome vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-11645, a high-severity V8 out-of-bounds memory access flaw.
