Most controllers use analog sticks with contact sensors that gradually wear down over time. As those sensors wear, the controller can start registering movement even when the stick isn’t being touched.

The good news is that a drifting controller doesn’t always need a full joystick replacement. In many cases, replacing the original sensors is enough to restore normal function.
