Someone on your team is going to paste something sensitive into ChatGPT this week.
Not maliciously. They're just trying to ""clean up"" a document. But if that document contains Controlled Unclassified Information, it just left your protected environment for a commercial cloud that was never approved to hold it. That's a compliance violation, and ""the AI did it"" is not an exemption.
Consumer AI tools are off-limits for CUI. Full stop. And it's not just chatbots. AI features are switching themselves on inside software you already own, and assessors are asking about all of it.
We're not anti-AI. Used right, AI can actually speed up compliance work. The difference between an asset and a liability is governance: know what tools your people use, decide what they can touch, write it down, train everyone.
