💡 Tech Tip: You probably have BitLocker turned on… and don’t even know it.
Sounds crazy, right? But we see it all the time.

BitLocker (Windows encryption) is designed to protect your data—but in many cases, it turns on automatically in the background without you ever clicking “yes.”

🤔 Wait… how does that happen?

Here’s the part most people don’t realize:
✅ New Windows setups can automatically enable encryption
✅ Signing in with a Microsoft account can trigger it
✅ Some updates or hardware changes can turn it on
✅ Many newer systems come pre-configured for it

In fact, newer versions of Windows are increasingly set up to turn encryption on by default during setup if your device supports it.

⚠️ Why this matters to you
BitLocker is great for security—but only if it’s managed properly.
👉 You may not know your data is encrypted
👉 You may not know where your recovery key is stored
👉 You may not realize you need that key someday
And then one day… your computer asks for it
…and suddenly everything is locked.

🚨 The reality we see locally
People bring in computers all the time saying:
“I didn’t turn this on!”
But the system was already encrypted—and now it wants a recovery key they’ve never seen before.

✅ The takeaway:
BitLocker isn’t the problem.
Not knowing it’s there is.
If your computer is encrypted (and there’s a good chance it is), you need to know:
✔ Where your recovery key is
✔ How your system is set up
✔ What could trigger a lockout
