Tech tip of the day:
Is your Windows 11 PC running slow after shutting down?
It might be due to Fast Startup, a feature in Windows 11 designed to help your computer boot up quickly.
What is Fast Startup?
Fast Startup is a hybrid shutdown mode that saves part of your system (like the kernel and drivers) to a hibernation file. This makes your computer start faster, but it also means your PC isn’t fully shutting down.
Why could this be a problem?
Since your computer isn’t completely restarting, it can sometimes cause:
- Hardware or driver issues
- Problems with Windows updates
How to turn off Fast Startup in Windows 11:
Press Windows + S and type Control Panel, then open it.
- Click Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- In the left sidebar, click Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable at the top.
- Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”.
- Click Save changes and restart your computer.
After this, your PC will fully shut down and restart, which can help with performance issues and ensure updates install properly.
