The UIS Giving Day is live! The Orion Lab will be represented in the UIS Student Union from 12:00pm-1:15pm today. We will have a 3D printer on display and will be giving away some of our random printed items.

Please stop by during that time if you have a chance!

Through this giving campaign we are trying to fund workstations for students to utilize to help with their learning. The lab is going to be providing the computers and monitors, but we need help providing the desks, chairs, and peripherals.

If you have the opportunity to help with this goal, you can make a donation here: https://give.communityfunded.com/o/university-of-illinois-springfield/i/faculty-staff-campaign-2024/s/orion-lab

Any help is appreciated, even if it is just liking and sharing this post!

Each workstation will need around $1,000 in donations to be completed, and we are hoping for 5 workstations by the end of this semester, so we have some work to do!

The Orion Lab is a lab that is open to any community member that wishes to use our services. We have 3D printers, CNC Machines, Laser Cutters and High Performance Computers, among other thing.

Come out to Stars Lounge on Sunday evening (8/12) to sign up for Humans vs Zombies and watch the Walking Dead season 5 premiere! Sign up starts at 6:00pm and the Walking Dead premiere begins at 8:00pm. Registration for Humans vs Zombies is now open at http://hvzsource.com/csclub2014/. If you sign up before the event, make sure to write down your ID and come to SLB to pick up your bandana.

What’s Humans vs Zombies!? Humans vs Zombies is a campus-wide game of tag. All players begin as humans, and one is randomly chosen to be the “Original Zombie”. The Original Zombie tags human players and turns them into zombies. Zombies must tag a human and then report the feast within 48 hours, or the Game Master may impose sanctions. Humans may stun zombies for 15 minutes by hitting them with sock. See our HvZ Source page for a full explanation of the rules!

WHAT IS THE ACM ICPC?

The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is the premiere global programming competition conducted by and for the world’s universities. The competition operates under the auspices of ACM, is sponsored by IBM, and is headquartered at Baylor University. The annual competitions have been held for nearly four decades.

Teams of three students represent their universities in the regional competition. Top teams from regional competition advance to the final round at the World Championship. This year’s regional winners will compete in the World Finals, May 16-21, which will be held in Morocco at the Al Akhawayn University.

How can you participate?

Join a Team and Compete: Teams are made up of 3 undergraduate (or 1st year graduate) students.

You can create a team and then each member of the team will need to register on our club website (http://csclub.uis.edu/acm).

If you don’t have a group of three, you can register as an individual and we will pair you up with other undergraduate students!

Volunteer to be Contest Staff: We need lots of volunteers to work this event! We need room monitors, printout runners, setup and tear-down helpers. Times needed: 9:00am-7:00pm; (you do NOT have to work all day, we’re happy for any amount of time you can offer). Register to Volunteer on our club website.

Every participant (contestant or volunteer) will get a T-shirt and Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner the day of the event.

Registration will close on October 11, 2014, 5:00 pm. You must pre-register in order to compete. There are no exceptions.
