U.S. restricts export of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips to foreign countries
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the most advanced chips developed by Nvidia — specifically those under the “Blackwell” architecture — will be reserved exclusively for U.S. companies. “The most advanced, we will not let anybody have them other than the United States,” he said. He added: “We don’t give (the Blackwell) chip to other people.”
His remarks indicate a potential tightening of U.S. export-controls on cutting-edge semiconductors, specifically blocking access to China and possibly other nations.
Despite this, the company recently announced plans to ship over 260,000 Blackwell AI chips to South Korea and major Korean firms, showing that sales to certain allied countries continue.
Mr. Trump also indicated that while the top version of the chip will remain off-limits, a less capable version might still be allowed for foreign sale.
