What to do on the first day of spring? Go outside if you live near me! If the weather is not as perfectly friendly where you are, then gather up those partial jigsaw puzzles, a bottle of white glue, and a precut mat board to make a family picture frame.

CALLIGRAPHY BEGINNER CLASSES Learn the art of beautiful lettering Nov. 7, 8, 11 13 in my upcoming classes. Register today. Seating is limited.
You will discover strategies and ergonomics which bring enjoyable experiences to your handwriting, and enable beautiful calligraphic lettering. We cover what YouTube videos can’t : your full body posture, correct pen hold, position of paper, “sweet spot,” and paper angles. You will be introduced to basic strokes for several alphabets, (such as Italic, Uncial, Copperplate, Old English), identify ductus, make nib “ladders, discover guide line transparencies, and tips for left handers.
In class you will write with a fountain pen, a parallel pen, pointed and broad metal nibs dipped in ink, perhaps even a quill. You will be introduced to various common alphabet “hands” (we don’t say fonts,) in order to choose which you wish to learn first. Digital handout resources will provide further information. Each class will be a bit different based on participants’ individual interests, questions and skills. All materials are provided, and please bring any pens, inks, or stationery you have that you want to try or to learn about.

Completed lettering a poem today in a variation of a font designed much like a black letter alphabet.

Paint was not a good option for this garden sign. The line carved by a Dremel was disappointing, as were the cuts with carving tools. So wood burning is my final choice. Rain, you can please fall when I don’t want to use my new tool outdoors?
