I never knew who created the gun-shaped 007 James Bond logo and the memorable movie posters for “West Side Story,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “Last Tango in Paris." Now, in learning of his death, I know.

A quiet giant in graphic design, he created posters for hundreds of movies, including “West Side Story” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” But his work was often unsigned.
