Some stories feel close to home, and this is one of them.

Rebecca Riley has spent years making as many quilts as she can for the Quilts of Valor Foundation honoring veterans one stitch at a time. After working at the Farmers Cooperative Association of Stanton cotton gin, she used to tell local farmers she’d still need cotton for quilts in her retirement, and she meant it.

Her connection runs deeper still. Rebecca’s husband, Tommy, worked for WesTex for 28 years, and she knew many of his co-workers were veterans or had family who served. Over the years, ther quilts have gone to farmers, church members, friends and even family.

It’s a simple but powerful way to say thank you, and a reminder of the kind of people who make this community special.

WesTex is looking for construction personnel to join our team.

In this role, you’ll place and maintain cable and fiber within underground conduit systems while helping keep our network running strong. You’ll maintain rights-of-way, including patching roadways and backfilling, install and remove aerial cable, and install and maintain pedestals, poles, carrier sites and equipment at subscriber locations. You’ll also operate digging and trenching equipment as part of daily operations.

If you enjoy hands-on work, operating equipment and being part of a team that connects our communities, we want to hear from you. Experience as a heavy equipment operator and/or a CDL is a plus.

In this role, you’ll help locate underground cable and utilities to support construction, rebuilds and system upgrades. You’ll interpret system maps (both paper and digital), mark utilities according to established standards, and report any discrepancies to help keep our records accurate and up to date.
