⚠️ New Amazon/PayPal Phishing Scam — Heads Up

Got an email this morning that's worth a public warning, especially for our small business clients who rely on Amazon and PayPal daily.

It arrives as a real AWS CloudWatch notification — legitimate sender, legitimate formatting — but scammers have found a clever workaround: they simply name a CloudWatch alarm with the scam message itself. AWS dutifully sends out a real alert announcing that "alarm," and the entire scary message — a fake sign-in warning, a fake $748.94 PayPal charge, and a phone number to call — is just attacker-controlled text sitting in the alarm's name field. The email shell is 100% genuine AWS; the content inside is 100% fake.

The goal: get you to call the number and hand over account access or payment details.

If you get one of these:

➡️Don't call the number.
➡️Don't click anything in the email.
➡️Log into your Amazon/PayPal accounts directly (type the URL yourself — never from the email).
➡️Report it: forward to [email protected] (Amazon), [email protected] (PayPal), and your email provider.
