Not too long ago, the Economic Development board of Sutherland, Iowa approached me about redesigning their website. The conversation began while brainstorming ways to create more advertising opportunities for local businesses. We decided to start with phase 1: make the site more engaging and user friendly to help set us up for success for future improvements!

I'm excited to share that the updated site is now live and you can visit and take a tour today!

This project has been a labor of love, and I believe it will bring real value to the Sutherland community—I hope you agree!

With the new release, we welcome your feedback! We've included a submission form on the website's homepage where you can report information that may need updating, request additions to the site, or simply share some kind words.

And a big thank you to Sutherland, for trusting me with the new design of the site!

Sutherland, Iowa is a quaint town located in the southeast corner of O'Brien County. It was established in 1881 and incorporated in 1883.

”If I’m local, can I pick up my order instead of paying for shipping?”

Yes! If you are in the local area and don’t want to pay for shipping please contact me we can schedule a pick up for your order! At the moment, there isn’t an option on the site to opt out of shipping, but I will refund the shipping amount when you purchase, if you specify you’d like to pick up!

About 3 years ago, I was thinking about ways that I could give back to the area where I grew up. It originally started as me wanting to donate a town mural—which is still one of my goals. Since moving back to the area, my vision has expanded.

Prairie Root’s mission is to create and provide high-quality, Midwest-based goods and design that captures the spirit and heart of the region. We are committed to giving back to the local community through transparent and strategic initiatives that make a meaningful impact.

Logo reveal time! It's been a long journey to get here, with many iterations and a lot of trial and error before finally landing on my primary logo and logo mark that truly felt representative of the brand I’m creating.

The logos incorporate the Iowa wild rose, which a symbol of the beautiful and diverse landscape that inspires Prairie Roots Design & Goods. It uses a simple, yet powerful symbol that represents growth, progress, and innovation - all key ideas that are central to my business vision and mission.

Your logo is not simply a design; it is the face of your business and a visual representation of your company's values, mission, and personality. A well-designed logo can establish your brand identity and lead to brand recognition, loyalty, and trust. It’s important to invest time and effort into creating a logo that accurately reflects your business, and I can help you with that!

Before diving into what Prairie Roots Design & Goods is, let me first take you through our own branding. As a designer, it's my job to think about the details, and our branding is no exception! A lot of thought and effort went into developing our identity, and I want to share some of those details with you.

Our color palette draws inspiration from the landscape of the Midwest, incorporating colors that represent the environment around us. From the dust that kicks up every spring during planting season to the mulberry tree growing in the ravine, we have thoughtfully selected the colors that best represent our brand.
