Everyone talks about “optimizing” paid search.
But here’s what rarely gets said — the real work isn’t in adding keywords or adjusting bids. It’s in understanding how the system learns and what signals you’re feeding it.

Here are a few truths that don’t make it into most playbooks:

1️⃣ Most campaigns don’t fail — they’re misaligned with the algorithm’s learning sequence.
If your conversion actions are too broad, too rare, or not properly prioritized, Google will optimize toward the wrong micro-behaviors.

2️⃣ Scaling isn’t about raising budgets.
It’s about signal density.
You can’t scale a campaign that’s starving the algorithm of consistent, high-quality conversion signals.

3️⃣ The best ROAS often comes from removing control, not adding it.
Smart Bidding performs best with:

fewer but higher-intent keywords

simplified match types

consolidated asset groups

clean, stable data
Too many levers = conflicting signals.
