Security breaches can and do happen.

That's why codezero.bluflametech.com

1. Encrypts OAuth tokens at rest
2. Has unique keys for every user & project
3. Does not supply keys to jobs

Reminder: never check unencrypted secrets into a repo.

GitHub reveals that hackers abused stolen OAuth user tokens issued to two third-party OAuth integrators, Heroku and Travis-CI.

Blue-green deployments are not an out of the box feature with K8s. However, they are possible.

There is usually a bit more to them then just swapping images, tho (e.g. environment specific config/secrets).

Ever since we added the Kubernetes Continuous Deploy and Azure Container Service plugins to the Jenkins update center, "How do I create zero-downtime deployments" is one of our most frequently-asked questions. We created a quickstart template on Azure to demonstrate what zero-downtime deployments ca...

Which Git workflow do you prefer?

Our latest blog post explores some popular Git workflows, breaks them down and discusses the importance of mainline development.

Gitflow, Forking, Feature Branch, and Centralized are all Git workflows. But which one can help you deliver stable working software the fastest? In this post, we’re going to dive into each of these workflows, pop the hood and discuss what’s underneath.

"If your infrastructure code does not have automated tests, it’s broken. You just don’t know it yet."

This post from Gruntwork is an oldie, but a goodie!

IaC still requires build/deployment and test automation. If you don't have it then your infrastructure does not work the way you think it does.

A concise masterclass on how to write infrastructure code

Technical debt...

It's often unintentional. But, it must be managed. If your have too much then it can easily turn into unplanned work.

Accumulation of tech debt; experiments and shortcuts are core components

Trunk-based development, FTW!

"High-performing organizations are more likely to have implemented trunk-based development, in which developers work in small batches and merge their work into a shared trunk frequently."

That's not to say feature-branching or other types of workflows cannot be used. Trunk-based development simply means that all development activities end up on single branch/codeline. This, along with how to effectively do trunk-based development using different workflows is discussed in our upcoming blog post this week.

We love Redis!

And, yes, we use it for our Hibernate L2 cache, too!

If you are wondering how to do something similar, check out this article on DZone.

Redis is a great platform for caching. Unfortunately, free options for integrating it into Hibernate as L2 cache are lacking. Let's see if we can fix that.
