Falling isn't failure. It's data.

Most training floors teach athletes to hide their falls.

But every fall is information about the gap between attempt and ability.

Train the fall, and it stops being failure - it becomes the most valuable skill-data your gym generates.

People talk a lot about competition changing parkour.

And yeah, comps definitely changed parts of it.

But honestly I think the algorithm changed way more. ([Wikipedia][1])

Not in some dramatic “social media ruined everything” way either.

More just… slowly.

Quietly.

You start seeing what gets pushed.
What gets views.
What gets clipped.
What gets replayed.
What gets people saying “bro WHAT.”

And eventually the culture starts bending toward that.

Bigger drops.
Cleaner clips.
More danger.
More spectacle.
Faster payoff.

Not because people are fake.
Not because filming is bad.
Not because creators are evil.

Just because incentives shape behavior.
That’s literally what algorithms are built to do.

I don’t even think social media was bad for parkour overall honestly.

Without it, a ton of us probably never would’ve found this in the first place.
It connected scenes all over the world.
Built careers.
Built gyms.
Built communities.
Built entire lives around movement.

But I do think the camera became the invisible coach at some point.

And I think some athletes accidentally stopped asking:
“Does this movement actually feel meaningful?”

and started asking:
“Will this perform?”

That’s a very different thing.
