Alexis Brown at Deer Heart Consulting provides guidance and real-world support to small business owners so you can envision possibilities without limitations and develop the resilience to handle whatever is thrown in your way. You've built your business by yourself, bootstrapping and learning as you do it. You're likely overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done. It's time you got the suppor

t you need. I listen and learn all I can about my clients so we can develop plans and write messaging that is authentic, compelling, and memorable - all so you can grow your audience and make more money.

I help you find clarity in your vision so you can reconnect with your passion and intent. I seek out the root cause of an obstacle, even if it is a limiting belief, and I figure out options for overcoming it. Everything I do is based on extensive research, creative strategy, efficiency, and strong relationships. I am a professional opportunist - I find opportunities, figure out the best option for you, and develop unique approaches to capitalizing on the opportunity. I don't just give you directives and expect you to get all the work done. I provide hands-on support so the new tasks get accomplished and you can make progress toward your goals. I provide training so you understand why the work is important and so you develop the skills necessary to continue the work throughout the life of your business.

To make this an effective partnership, we have to become a team with transparency, honesty, trust, and a commitment to doing the work. You aren't hiring someone to just do it for you. I am helping you strengthen the foundation of your business and providing you with the tools that will increase your business' chance of survival and set the stage for longevity and larger profit margins. With me by your side, you will forge a clear path to success.

Back in 2020, I created a list of funding support opportunities for small businesses in NM. At the suggestion by my friends at SCORE Mentors, I've updated and added to the list over the years. With nearly 250 resources, it's become a multi-part blog series: 2024 Guide to Funding Small Businesses in New Mexico.

This is Part 1, in which I talk about why these resources are so important and I share descriptions and links for business development, financial literacy, and networking resources available across the state.

It's been so long since I've posted. Anyone out there?

I've been doing a lot of web design lately. This is one of my most recent projects - and my favorite. It was a huge undertaking and I'm very happy with the result.

Tiberius Art Studio features oil paintings by the father/daughter duo, Richard and Kiry Tiberius. They share a studio, a love of nature, and amazing skills. They paint using palette knives instead of brushes and the result is fantastic. From afar, they seem photorealistic. But when you view them close up, they turn into crazy abstract paintings.

There are around 165 paintings featured on the site. The scenes are from across the U.S. and Canada = from Quebec to the Florida Wetlands to Taos. A lot of Kiry's paintings feature wildlife.

If you check out the site (and I hope you do) please be patient as photos load. We used high res images so people could check out the detail.

Explore the oil paintings of Richard & Kiry Tiberius, father /daughter artists. Texture and light effects created in oil paint with palette knives.

Gotta love it when things come together. At the beginning of the year I worked with Prospera Partners to create a comprehensive business plan for Books On the Bosque, including market research and a detailed budget forecast and financial roadmap. It is one of my favorite projects from the entire year and I love seeing this neighborhood bookstore launch.

When Deborah Condit was a student at West Mesa high school, the Hastings bookstore on the West Side ...

One of the four areas I focus on in my small business consulting is evaliuating systems and helping find the right tools for you to do you work with more ease, less time, and less money. That's what this post is about. Some of you may know I am starting a second eCommerce business - 100% doin' myself, from product manufacturing to packaging to graphic design.

Because product labels and packaging are one of the most expensive parts of the cost of goods for health and beauty products, I decided I wanted to make them myself. I spent a significant amount of time trying to find a work around to Cricut's print area limitations for their Print Then Cut feature. When I couldn't find one that worked, I figured it out for myself.

I share my process, with detail on the how and why I do specific steps, in the hopes that I can help someone else. If you have a business that creates and sells something, a smaller scale, this post might interest you. If you are a hobbiest craft maker, this post will interest you.

It's so easy to get lost in the daily grind. No matter what work you do, there'salways too much and the effort can feel unnoticed or unappreciated. But you keep going, day in and day out. And then, out of no where, someone notices and takes a moment to say something. And you're reminded why you do what you do. And that bit of acknowlegment can change your attitude and be the highlight of your week.

This week I about had a meltdown when it appeared all my blog posts were gone. I don't blog often, but when I do, they are intensive with a massive amount of research and writing involved. And it happened at a time when I was feeling pulledin many directions. (Overwhelmed - the small business owner's mantra.) And then I get this message in my response from Wix tech support:

"I understand you were reaching out regarding a feeling that blogs may be deleted. Before we begin, I would like to take a moment and appreciate the amount of effort and passion you put into creating your site. I had a chance to briefly look through the website and was impressed by the professional, easy-to-navigate interface, despite the complex inner structure that you have skillfully created."

The Wix team is one of the main reasons I love being a Wix Partner. I never get boilerplate responses. It's real people who care about what they do.

Her message reminded me how important it is for us to vocalize acknowledgement and appreciation. So, when you see something, say something. Whether it's co-workers or employees or someone whose service you've used. If they do good work, tell them. It can change their entire week. And, expressions of gratitude improve your outlook - so you benefit, too. Win-win.
