I started Copper Theory Creative 10 years ago today.
I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. HA!
I was that kid in high school who knew I wanted my own business and wanted to be my own boss. I had a plan (kind of), went to college, and spent some time working in the industry afterward.
I had a really cool boss who encouraged me to do the damn thing. So, as a birthday present to myself, I filed the paperwork.
My plan was for Copper Theory's anniversary to be the same day as my birthday, August 17, but it turns out the state takes forever to do anything. š August 19 it is.
I was excited, ambitious, and I also had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
Back then, I was the girl who could design your logo and print your business cards.
Along the way, I networked like it was a part-time job. I tried just about everything at least once. I said yes when I should have said no. I learned some expensive lessons. I built teams, rebuilt teams, screwed thing up, figured them out, all while working with some incredible people.
Somewhere along the way, Copper Theory became about a whole lot more than making things look good. The webiste isn't the issue and posting more isn't going to magically fix anything.
The real work is figuring out who you are, what you want to be known for, and whether the way you're showing up actually matches the business you've built.
That's the work I love.
Ten years ago, I thought I was starting a design company.
Today, I'm building a brand strategy studio that helps women-led businesses close the gap between how good they are and how clearly the rest of the world sees it.
My favorite thing about these 10 years:
**Copper Theory grew up with me.**
To every client who trusted me with their business, every person who sent a referral, every collaborator and team member who brought their talents into this company, every friend who listened to me talk through another wild idea, and everyone who's had a seat somewhere along this 10-year ride:
Thank you.
Seriously.
Ten freaking years.
I feel like we're just getting to the good part.
Happy birthday, Copper Theory. š„
