After a long cold day with Parks on the Air i was meet with tornado producing storms and power outage. Band conditions were rough at best but I got the park activated with 23 contacts in the log. Power is back on but internet is intermittent. Everyone have a safe and happy Easter.

Batteries are used to store energy and come in many different styles and sizes. Hams uses batteries as a power source while operating portable or as an emergency backup. Some of the most common types of batteries are Lead Acid such as that in your vehicle, Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM), and Lithium Ion Phosphate. Each type of battery has its own unique characteristics.
The stored energy in batteries is measured in Amperes (Amps) and can be quite high. They are designed to provide 12 Volts DC with a steady Amperes drain. When the terminals are shorted the Amperes are discharged at a rate greater than the battery is designed for and will cause a great deal of heat, sparks, and can cause fire, burns, and explosions.
