On this day in 2000, the legal battle over how we browse the internet reached a boiling point. Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson ordered Microsoft to be split in two, largely because of how they bundled Internet Explorer with Windows.

Microsoft immediately fought back, calling the ruling "draconian," and eventually won their appeal. It was a massive moment that defined the early days of the internet.
