Further updates on CSM Marlow’s Warfighter Box. Well, the box, being made out of Oak, has become…um…heavy. So I have decided to build a “cart” for the box to fit on…but in the spirit that I can NEVER do anything easily, I have to make this more then just a simple “cart”…more to follow…

Hi everyone! Quick update on the never ending Warfighter Box for my old CSM. It has been a while since I posted, and life has kept me out of the shop, but I’ve been working on the “Lid” of the trunk, in particular the front of the lid. During the Gulf War, CSM Billy Marlow drove a Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) across the desert. I wanted to capture that part of his career along with two engraved “patches” on either side. One for the Gulf War and the other for the Transportation Branch he served in. To add color and balance, I wanted to flank each side with the American Flag. The carve you see in the Pictures is a “practice” carve, as I will do the final carve on Oak.

A quick carve I made on some interesting wood provided by the client, Dave Ebersole. He is going to make an end table out of it and fill the carve in with epoxy. Never seen this type of wood before but it was very hard and tough on my router. Loved the look of it though…Dave told me it’s called Red Flame…never heard of it.

Shout out to Mr. Fred Hofactor who has been teaching me his technique for making patches and color inserts with Epoxy! I’m still learning his technique, but wanted to share some of the photos he sent me of his process. It’s very simple and I can’t wait to try it out. The patches he is working on in the photos is from files I made for CSM(R) Billy Marlow’s retirement Shadowtrunk project.

The never ending project for my old CSM…Billy Marlow…is starting to take shap now. I’m really liking how its starting to turn out. Still have a LOT more to do, but it’s coming along!
