What are your thoughts?
From fast food to farming, Covid-19 has accelerated the rise of the worker robots. This in turn will put more jobs at risk and makes the need to reframe society ever more urgent. As the coronavirus pandemic enveloped the world last year, businesses increasingly turned to automation in order to address rapidly changing conditions. Floor-cleaning and microbe-zapping disinfecting robots were introduced in hospitals, supermarkets and other environments. Some enterprises found that, given the new emphasis on hygiene and social distancing, robotic operations offered a marketing advantage. The American fast food chain White Castle began using hamburger-cooking robots in an effort to create “an avenue for reduced human contact with food during the cooking process”. ARE YOU PREPARED?
Over the last year and a half, if we have learned anything, we know that the pandemic caused a global shift to remote and hybrid work. It forced organizations to review the way they operate practically overnight, with little to no preparation and where most organizations saw crisis, cybercriminals saw opportunity.
Cybercriminals changed their approached – small or large, we are now all at risk. The question is now, how do we protect ourselves and our vulnerability?
Here are a few startling facts:
• More than 6 in 10 companies suffered a ransomware attack last year Up 61% from 2019- On average, organizations experienced 6 days of downtime as a result.
• The increase in email threats rose by 64% in 2020
• 79% of organizations were hurt by their lack of cyber preparedness.
What will you do to be better prepared and focus on your business? Knowing you have the necessary cyber risk coverage to keep your organization protected should be the first step.
Cyber Security Insurance
How do you explain cyber insurance?
Cyber insurance generally covers your business' liability for a data breach involving sensitive customer information, such as Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, account numbers, driver's license numbers and health records.

Do we need cyber security insurance?
For most businesses the answer is yes, you really do need cyber insurance. However, it's important that you take proactive measures to ensure proper security policies are in place and that the tools such as endpoint security software are up-to-date to help minimize risk.

We can help you navigate on the type of Cyber Security Insurance you should have.

As Cyber October comes to an end, I wanted to send this reminder...

Cyber criminals will use whatever they can to trick us into taking the action they want us to. And that includes CAPTCHA. You know, the bot that checks you’re not a bot. For example, when you’re logging in, you have to click all the pictures of the trucks, stop lights or crosswalks. Now they’re being used to hide illegal websites that are copies of proper sites (such as your bank’s login page). You can’t see the pages until you’ve passed the CAPTCHA. And because they’re hiding the content of the pages, security software looking for bad sites can’t detect anything malicious. This helps make the spoofed site look legitimate. This is not a new ploy from cyber criminals, but it’s definitely growing. It’s estimated more than 500 new websites hiding behind CAPTCHA go online every day. So how can you tell the genuine ones from the fakes? Sometimes on fake CAPTCHA pages the images are always the same, rather than changing each time you visit the page. Another good indicator that it’s a fake is that the audio replay function doesn’t work, unlike on a genuine CAPTCHA page.

Can we train your staff how to spot a dangerous web page? Please reach out to [email protected]

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

The Secret History of Cybersecurity Awareness Month
(And its Not-So-Secret Future)
Have you ever wondered where all those weird holidays come from? Like, who got to decide that April 23rd was National Talk Like Shakespeare Day? Or that Squirrel Appreciation Day would fall on January 21st? Or that the last Friday of every April would be National Hairball Awareness Day? An entire day to make sure that your feline friends aren’t spewing wet clumps of hair on to the floor seems like a waste of time, but do you know what isn’t? An entire month dedicated to cybersecurity. Now that’s a topic worthy of a holiday!

Cybersecurity Awareness Month was created by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance in October of 2004. It was launched in an effort to help Americans to be safe in the rapidly growing Internet. Since its inception, the month has only grown more important as our lives become increasingly digitized. Many high-ranking US officials have been a part of the event including former DHS Secretaries and former Presidents. We are only one of many industry participants who are taking this month to educate our community on the importance of cybersecurity. College campuses, non-profits, and other organizations frequently join in on the fun as well.

This October, we will be participating in Cybersecurity Awareness Month in a big way. Make sure that you’re following us on social media (AT technology Inc. | Facebook or AT technology Inc.: My Company | LinkedIn so you don’t miss out on any of the cybersecurity goodness we have in October.

PHISING HAS GONE WILD!
Looks like many cyber criminals have gone phishing. And that’s because of the money it can bring in.
• Phishing is where they send you an email pretending to be someone else, perhaps your bank or another service. They’re hoping you’ll click on a link they send you. Maybe so they can steal your login info. Or so they can install bad software on your computer.
• Phishing attacks are rising fast. And the costs for businesses have quadrupled over the past 6 years. Big businesses are losing $14.8 million annually - or around $1,500 per employee.
• To give you an idea of the growth of phishing attacks, that figure was $3.8 million back in 2015. Whoa. (by the way, it’s not only large businesses that are targeted. The criminals use automated tools to target all businesses of all sizes, all the time)

Will you become a victim of a DATA BREACH?
28% of small businesses in the US became victims of a data breach last year. That figure will be bigger this year thanks to the pandemic and increase in remote working.
A huge 52% of the data that’s compromised in small businesses is login information. This can then be used to access other accounts and steal even more data. Take a moment to think about the type of data that could be stolen if your business suffered a breach today. Horrifying, isn’t it?
The good news is there are several things you can do to make sure your data stays as safe as it can be.
• The first is to continually monitor for vulnerabilities. And though that sounds like a job in itself, if you’re working with a reliable IT support partner, they should be doing this as standard.
• Next, you should secure your systems.
• Use: A password manager to generate random passwords and remember them for you
• Multi-factor authentication where you generate a code on another device to login
• Firewalls and network monitoring to limit access to your sensitive data to those who need it It’s also a good idea to keep all your employees – from the top to the bottom – up to date on security awareness with regular training.
I know it sounds like a lot of work to keep your data safe, but it’s worth it. This is what we do every day, and we’re really good at it. If you think we can help keep your data safe and secure, let’s talk. Email me at [email protected] or go to www.attechnology.com

As a follow up to my MSP post last week, this week I’m talking “PATCH MANAGEMENT”. Because I’ll be honest, a lot of businesses are getting it wrong.

What’s a patch?

It’s a set of changes that a developer releases when they discover a problem or vulnerability in their software. It literally patches up the problem until a full update is available. Here’s the thing: 57% of data breaches are put down to poor patch management. Which means businesses are either not installing patches, or they’re doing a bad job of it. When a patch becomes available, it’s really important that it’s installed right away. If you don’t, you’re leaving your business open to attack. Who checks for patches in your business?

Who installs them? And who checks the patches don’t create new, unexpected problems? If you’re not sure, ask a trusted IT partner to take care of it for you. Need a hand? Give me a call on 716-250-7777 or email [email protected]

Have you selected a Managed Service Provider?
Today it’s a fight between reactive and proactive IT.
Who do you think will win?
IN THE RED CORNER… reactive IT. It used to be the case that when something broke, you’d call IT support and they’d come rushing in to fix the problem. And that was great. You could judge a company based on its reaction times. But the problem was, every time an issue occurred, the business would grind to a halt until it was repaired. And nobody ever took the time to look at the bigger picture to work out a better solution.

Today, we do things differently…

IN THE BLUE CORNER… proactive IT. These days, a good IT partner will spend more of its time working away in the background, making updates, maintaining your system, and managing everything so that problems are less likely to occur in the first place. The less you see your IT partner, the better service you’re getting. Because in the background they’re spotting and resolving problems before they affect you. They’re looking ahead at how your system needs to grow with your business, and they’re planning for what comes next. And the result of this?
• Business is easier for you
• Your people stay productive
• You save money on downtime and big fixes
• And you don’t have to call your IT support often because something has gone wrong… again

AND THE WINNER IS… It’s got to be proactive IT support, hands down. Could you benefit from a more proactive IT support partner? Give me a call to find out more regarding our MSP and let’s talk. [email protected] or www.attechnology.com

Have you changed your PASSWORD today?

When was the last time you changed your password? If you were like me, and even though you know better, you tend to ignore the all the automated “Notifications, Alerts and Warnings” thinking to yourself, I don’t have time to do this now why anyone would ever hack into my accounts.

The simple fact is everyone is a target. Big or small… Change your password today!!!

If for some reason you feel for some reason you feel your password may have been compromised contact [email protected] or www.attechnology.com

I was almost hacked today by a PayPal email, but because of the awesome training AT technology provides their employees as well as their clients, I was able to determine it was a SCAM!

Hopefully you’re aware of the risks of fake accounts on social media. Accounts are created to catfish; con people out of money; and for other kinds of exploitation.

But did you know that fake accounts can be created for other services too?

Most of the businesses we interact with now need you to create an account. Think food ordering, online shopping, maybe even for businesses like yours.

But what’s the harm in that, right? These fakes won’t be creating accounts on your website to trick you into anything. They won’t be able to access your products or services for free. Aside from creating spam in your CRM, what’s the problem?

Actually, these fake accounts can result in huge fraud. Recently, for example, the US Secret Service announced it had recovered $2 billion in fraudulent Covid-19 relief claims.

And it’s on the rise, because there are now software tools which automate account creation and mask real identities.

In the world of retail, bots exist to buy up limited edition or highly desired items, with a view to reselling them for a higher price. And the lengths these bots go to, in order to make fake email accounts look like real humans is incredible.

They sign up to mailing lists, send emails, watch YouTube videos, all to build up normal email account activity, before creating accounts with the desired retailer, ready for the drop.

When the item is released, these bots are all logged in and checking out at the sametime, making it next to impossible for real humans to make a purchase.

While this may not directly affect your business in this way, it’s making it very difficult for all of us to be recognized as real individuals online. It may be only a matter of time before this is recognized as a form of fraud.

Have you considered how fake account fraud could affect your business? Perhaps it’s time to take a look at the way accounts are created to do business with you.
