ROBOTICS
Robotics is a thriving after-school program in Greenville County. Steam Tech Team (STT) volunteers have been leading competitive after school robotics since 2020. Our flagship program is at Northwest Middle School in Travelers Rest.

STT teams compete in VEX robotics tournaments. Each year, teams attend between 3-5 local competitions designed by VEX engineers. The game changes every year demanding that students master skills including designing their robots to meet the year’s challenge, building their robots, programming their robots, documenting their
efforts in an engineering notebook, and driving their robots to obtain a winning score.

Students also have access to 3D design computer programs to test out their designs before construction.

In addition to mastering the technical aspects of robotics, programs that include competition have additional benefits including learning how to work collaboratively, handle stressful situations, and communicate effectively.

Since 2020 Northwest robotics has sent eight teams to the South Carolina State championship, including two all-girls teams. In 2025 one team qualified to compete at the World VEX Championship in Dallas. Teams from all over the world compete at VEX
Worlds. The Northwest team got to meet and interact with fellow robotics students from many foreign countries. STT volunteers thank the Northwest PTA and B & R Machining and Fabrication for helping the team travel to Dallas.

In one part of the competition, teams play with a partner team and share the score. In another part of the competition teams play alone and their solo score is used to rank the team internationally. The Northwest team ranked in the top 5.5% of teams in 2025.

Blue Ridge Robotics Tournament!
Congratulations to the 4 Northwest Middle School Robotics teams!
The Gummy Gobblers (Coach Vito) came in second out of 20 that competed in the Finals.

The Juggernauts (Coach Jesus) were not far behind at 5th, and The Milky Way Monkeys (Coach Sue) at 9th.

The Chainsaw Chicken Dept. (Coach Reid) won the Build award, probably because of the 3D design.

Super accomplishments by Team Northwest Robotics, both students & all coaches!

VEX IQ Robotics at Travelers Rest Middle School is up and running. Twenty four students will make up four teams. Many are returning students from previous years or went to our summer camp so we have high hopes for them. Wish them well.

SteamTechTeams’ last day of Northwest Middle School Robotics Camp.
Students designed a robot, built & programmed it and then competed in a mock tournament. Almost all of the parents showed up to watch their kids achievement. As you can see, the teams concentrated intently on the game.
This coming school year of Robotics is going to be great!!!!

Northwest Middle School Robotics team (the Juggernauts) appear on YOUR CAROLINA Channel 7 morning show!
Just back from VEXIQ Worlds Competition earning a prestigious spot in the top 5.5% skills scores out of 5,600 teams from around the World.
Congratulations to the NW Middle School team and coaches.
Travelers Rest is proud too.

We are so excited that our Northwest Middle School Juggernaut VEX Robotics Team will be going to Dallas in May for the World Championship. Watch this 6-minute video to meet the four 6th, 7th and 8th graders who will be going. They are accepting donations to help support them and pay for their trip.

We are so proud of our NW Middle School Robitics team. Our 41843N Team, the Juggernauts, are State Champions in Middle School, VexIQ Teamwork and Skills. Hence, they will receive an invitation to VexIQ Worlds in Dallas, Texas May 6 to 15, 2025.
