Brace yourself for a wave of babies named Sabrina and Justin. The world’s largest condom producer, Karex, plans to raise prices by 20–30% over the next few months due to supply chain disruptions from the war in Iran, the company said yesterday.

Scoreboard: One out of every five condoms worldwide are made by Karex, a Malaysian company that owns ONE Condoms and supplies brands such as D***x and Trojan, as well as the UK’s national health system, and UN-run aid programs. Now, the economic shockwaves that are jolting countless goods, from oil to food, have come for the ruler of rubbers, too.

According to Karex:

Production costs are up 25–30% since the US and Israel first struck Iran, amid shortages of oil-derived condom materials.
With global freight disrupted, Karex’s shipments to Europe and the US—which used to take one month to arrive—now take two.
Looking ahead…with how uncertain the geopolitical landscape is, Karex said its outlook is hazy beyond the next two to three months, and it can’t rule out further price increases.

You’ll need more than luck if you drive impaired this
St. Patrick’s Day

Before you celebrate, plan ahead for a sober ride home

St. Patrick’s Day brings parades, parties and an important reminder from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 additional law enforcement agencies throughout the state: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI.”

“Driving after consuming alcohol, using cannabis or becoming impaired by any substance is dangerous and potentially deadly,” said Stephane B. Seck-Birhame, IDOT’s bureau chief of Safety Programs and Engineering.“Prescription medications, drugs and combinations of substances can impair your judgment, attention and reaction time, so designate a driver before it’s too late to make a safe decision.”

According to IDOT data, on St. Patrick’s Day from 2020 through 2024, Illinois recorded 3,315 crashes statewide, including 671 injury crashes and 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities involving alcohol or cannabinoids.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement and awareness effort begins March 13 and extends into the early hours of March 23.

“Often celebrated with green beer and Irish whiskey, ISP is reminding you to celebrate smartly this St. Patrick’s Day by designating a driver, arranging a ride share or asking a friend to pick you up if you plan on drinking,” said ISP Division of Patrol Col. Chris Owen.

If you are impaired by alcohol, cannabis or any drugs:

• Call a cab, use a rideshare service or public transportation. Or ask a sober friend or family member for a ride home.
• Take advantage of your community’s designated driver program, if available.
• Report impaired drivers to law enforcement immediately by pulling over and dialing 911.
• Ensure everyone in your vehicle is wearing a seat belt – it’s your best defense in a crash.

The St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” enforcement campaign is funded with federal traffic safety grants administered by IDOT. These efforts are supported by ISP and local law enforcement agencies across the state. The campaigns are reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” initiative spotlighting safe driving and highway safety throughout Illinois.

ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL OBTAINS 10-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY REGISTERED S*X OFFENDER WHO POSSESSED CHILD S*XUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a Lebanon, Illinois man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child s*xual abuse material. The case is part of Raoul’s ongoing work, in collaboration with federal law enforcement agencies and local law enforcement officials throughout Illinois, to apprehend offenders who download and trade child s*xual abuse material online.

Tyson Schmitt, 41, was sentenced today by St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Watson after pleading guilty to two counts of possession of child po*******hy, Class 2 felonies. Schmitt is a registered s*x offender from a 2013 conviction for indecent solicitation of a child, indecent solicitation to meet a child and s*xual exploitation of a child.

“Survivors of child exploitation and their families face a lifetime of trauma from reprehensible images on the internet,” Raoul said. “My office will continue to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to protect Illinois children by identifying and holding offenders who prey on them accountable.”

Raoul’s investigators conducted a search of Schmitt residence in Lebanon in March 2022. He was taken into custody after investigators discovered evidence of child s*xual abuse material.

Raoul’s office, with a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, runs the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force that investigates child exploitation crimes and trains law enforcement agencies. The task force receives CyberTips, or online reports of child s*xual abuse material, from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Over the last several years, CyberTipline reports have steadily increased. In 2025, reports to the ICAC Task Force increased by 45% over 2024.

Illinois’ ICAC Task Force is one of 61 ICAC task forces throughout the country and is comprised of a network of more than 200 local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Since 2019, the Attorney General’s ICAC Task Force has received more than 76,500 CyberTips and has been involved in more than 1,800 arrests of s*xual predators. Since 2006, the Attorney General’s ICAC Task Force has been involved in more than 2,500 arrests of s*xual predators. In 2025, the task force was involved in rescuing more than 30 child victims from ongoing abuse. The task force also has provided internet safety training and education to over 1 million parents, teachers, students and more than 25,000 law enforcement professionals.

Attorney General Raoul is reminding the public that child s*xual exploitation can be reported online at cybertipline.com and child abuse at dcfsonlinereporting.dcfs.illinois.gov. In addition, local child advocacy centers can be found at childrensadvocacycentersofillinois.org.

Assistant Attorney General Jenifer Peck prosecuted the case for Raoul’s High Tech Crimes Bureau.

On this day 177 years ago, the US did not have a president. Or maybe it did, but we don’t know who it was.

Per the law back then, President James K. Polk’s administration expired at noon on March 4, 1849. Incoming President Zachary Taylor was supposed to take the oath of office that day, but he refused because it was the Sabbath. He was inaugurated the next day, March 5.

So, who, if anyone, was president on March 4? Some believe it was Sen. David Rice Atchison, the Senate president pro tempore, who was second in the line of succession at the time behind the vice president.

Atchison never claimed the title, but his tombstone suggests otherwise. It reads, “President of the United States for One Day.” The more you know!
