Protect your child’s digital world with our easy safety guide! Read below for tips! 🔒📱
Kids usually don't understand the dangers of the internet and are usually the weakest link when it comes to cybersecurity. It is important to educate kids on recognizing sources of malware and to avoid suspicious activity. Encourage your kids or grandkids to ask for help if something doesn't seem right. Don't cram every possible danger into one sitting, but instead, as they gain more freedom adjust your safety topics to accommodate those freedoms.
People, especially kids, will make themselves vulnerable to identity theft because they are disclosing personal information online. Scammers trick people into disclosing personal information so that they can commit identity theft, and a kid's identity has just as much value as an adult's. Remind children to never reveal information about themselves especially their, date of birth, address, phone number, or where they attend school.
Passwords are your number one defense against hackers. However, so many people reuse the same password for multiple accounts and use passwords that are easy to remember. Teach your kids to create a "hacker-proof" password. This would consist of not using common words, phrases, or personal information. Instead teach them to create a combination of characters that include, upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Remind your kids and grandkids not to engage with strangers. You've already introduced them to stranger danger in public the same idea applies to the internet. Teach kids to communicate with you when someone is making them uncomfortable.
